The Suicide Squad has opened to impressive box office numbers. James Gunn's DC movie grossed $4.1 million in the US on its opening Thursday night.As reported by Variety, this is the biggest opening night gross of an R-rated movie in the pandemic era. The movie is projected to make more than $30 million in its first weekend. The number is particularly impressive given that, like all of Warner's movies this year, it's also available on HBO Max for subscribers to watch at no extra cost.The Suicide Squad has also been a hit with critics, and it currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%. Another weekend in Destiny 2 means that there's another chance for players to brave one of the game's toughest challenges and take on the Trials of Osiris. You'll need a team of two other players to fight through the competition, but you'll get a chance at some of the best guns Destiny 2 has to offer if you do.As always, both the Trials of Osiris rewards and the map are randomized when the mode goes live at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Fridays. After having its release date pushed back three times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Guy will finally be hitting theaters on August 13. It's expected to be in cinemas exclusively for a 45-day period, after which it will appear on streaming services to give folks a safer option to check it out.Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds in what's essentially The Truman Show set in an open-world video game world. Nintendo is notoriously slow to change, especially when it comes to connected experiences like multiplayer and online services. And while the company still certainly has a long way to go, we're starting to see small signs of a more modern Nintendo in how it's handling game updates for some of its first-party franchise titles like Mario Golf: Super Rush and New Pokemon Snap.Both games received substantial updates this week. New Pokemon Snap's update, announced last week, adds three new areas and tons of new Pokemon and behaviors to document with your trusty camera. Mario Golf: Super Rush's update was even more sudden, dropping as soon as it was announced and adding a new golfer, Toadette, a new golf course, and more. Nintendo also promised more updates to come for Super Rush.What was most striking was how quickly these updates followed post-release. Pokemon Snap just came out in April, and Mario Golf in June. Hearthstone's latest expansion, United in Stormwind, launched this week and introduced the usual suite of new cards and mechanics. That has also renewed conversation among the community, who are commonly complaining that the new expansion stifles interactivity and turns the game into "solitaire."The critique extends from two new class-defining Quest cards. Hearthstone has used Quests before, 1-Mana spells that give a set of conditions to complete to get a big reward. It's not uncommon for decks to be built around these Quests as win conditions, and Stormwind introduces a twist with Questlines--multi-stage quests with even bigger rewards. These quest conditions are supposed to be harder to fulfill, but judging by the community's reaction, the Mage and Warlock quests are just too easy.Mage and the Sorcerer's GambitThe Mage questline, Sorcerer's Gambit, revolves around playing different types of spells. At each stage of the quest you must play one Arcane, one Fire, and one Frost spell to advance the questline. Developer Double Fine has announced that the action-platformer Psychonauts 2 has gone gold in preparation for its August 25 release.The studio took to Twitter to deliver the news, reiterating that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass the same day it launches worldwide. For the first time, Microsoft invited the public to play Halo Infinite's multiplayer through a beta test. Over three days of action, we sank our teeth into the multiplayer preview offering and came away very impressed with what developer 343 Industries has in store for later this year. In a new video you can watch below, Persia runs through her impressions of the beta and talks about what the game has in store.The game delivers a number of new innovations for the Halo series, including a grappling hook piece of equipment called the Grappleshot, new weapons like the Skewer, and a variety of new maps. Bearing in mind that it was an early version of Halo Infinite, the beta had a number of issues, oddities, and hiccups that are likely to be addressed for launch. But that said, we still learned a lot about what Halo Infinite has to offer and how it mixes things up from Halo 5.Mini-MapHalo Infinite has a Call of Duty-style mini-map that helps you get a jump on enemies. Based on our experience with the beta, enemies only tended to show up when they were sprinting and shooting, even though the mini-map is visible at all times. In the past, crouching was a good way to avoid being detected, but now you can also walk and stay hidden. Sprinting, shooting, or taking damage will expose your location on the map. Giant Bomb's Jan Ochoa and Matt Rorie traveled to Valve's headquarters in Bellevue, Washington to check out the Steam Deck. The two touched on multiple aspects of the portable PC, talking about things like how new-user-friendly the device is for newcomers unfamiliar with the Steam ecosystem.In the nearly 20-minute-long video, Ochoa and Rorie, sat crossed-legged on a grassy field in front of some shrubbery, ran through their impressions. They talked about several games they played on the latest prototype, including Control, Doom Eternal, and Hades. Both Ochoa and Rorie said the device is "neat" for the price and functionality, though games can take a while to load.Still, Valve's portable device tends to perform better than the Nintendo Switch. In one loading comparison, Hades got to the start screen faster on the Steam Deck than the Switch. The Fortnite Rift Tour starring Ariana Grande has made its debut, and while it'll be replaying at select times all weekend, you can catch the whole show right here. Grande's performance was the headliner, but the complete in-game event took players on a spacetime-hopping journey through Fortnite's illustrious history.As players danced and emoted atop the party-themed Abductor hovering over The Aftermath, the countdown timer ticked away to zero and revealed a large Rift door at the center of the Abductor. Jumping into it took players on an expedition that showcased past Fortnite performances, like Marshmello, while also revisiting past story-heavy scenes like Kevin The Cube and The Devourer. There was even an aerial combat mini-game that kept score.After the whole lobby defeated the last Big Bad and landed in a black void, they helped each other to their feet in a cinematic sequence that was meant to tug at the heartstrings and lay down the red carpet for the show's main act. Down came a shooting star with some of the best high notes in both worlds--ours and the looping Fortnite realm alike.
