The Big Con is a nostalgic throwback to the 1990s that does not attempt to replicate the defining look or play of '90s games. This is a thoroughly modern adventure game, with an isometric look, hand-drawn graphics, and a resolute refusal to mine references from LucasArts point-and-clicks. The Big Con takes its cues not from what we were playing in the '90s but what we were watching. The debut game from developer Mighty Yell reminds me a little bit of Night in the Woods, but if, instead of talking animals, Night in the Woods had starred '90s teens rendered in the Nickelodeon's Doug art style, complete with the primary and secondary color skin tones that lended characters like Mr. Dink, Skeeter Valentine, and Roger Klotz their memorable designs. In this NickToons-inspired look, and in the decade-specific trappings of its narrative, The Big Con builds a setting that feels both true to the era, and heavily influenced by the art that era produced. In translating its inspirations, though, the game brings with it a sense that you have seen this all before. It’s derivative, but going through the motions of this familiar story is still, at times, a lot of fun.Our heroine, Ali, is a teen who works in a video rental store owned by her mother, Linda. As the story begins, we learn Linda is in deep financial trouble--to the tune of $97,000 and some change--with some very bad people. Despite Linda repeatedly telling her not to concern herself with the finances, Ali is committed to raising the money and saving the store. But coming up with close to a hundred grand the legit way proves challenging. Luckily for Ali, there's a new kid, Ted, passing through town who's happy to teach her how to pickpocket. When Ali proves to have a knack for it, Ted dangles a new possibility in front of her: Travel to Las Venganza--The Big Con's version of Sin City--and pull off one con job big enough to pay off most of the debt. They'll pick up the rest by nabbing wallets along the way.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Before Halo: The Master Chief Collection's eighth season launches, players will get a sneak preview of features planned for the game in a new flight. While not all of the features announced by developer 343 Industries will make it into the game when Season 8 launches, they are "areas of interest for the team as they continue to develop and iterate for the future." Among the long list of new content players that get into the next Season 8 flight can expect are an improved custom games browser and a fully functional file sharing system for PC.While custom games have been available to Halo: MCC players for quite a while, one of the system's tie-in features, file sharing, has been missing for PC players. File sharing, which as its name suggests, lets players download and share custom maps, game modes, and even in-game screenshots with each other, has been a mainstay on the franchise's console releases. According to a forum post, file sharing on PC will arrive with everything players should expect and "trust levels," which can be set for other players.Halo: MCC's custom games browser on the other hand will also be getting its own suite of improvements. As it is right now, the system is rather barebones. However, the upcoming Season 8 flight of the custom games browser will cover not only Halo: Reach, but also Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3. This version of the browser will also come with numerous quality of life improvements, including better search functions, filters, and changes to sub-menus.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Nintendo Switch is a unique system in that you not only can use more than one of them regularly, but there's a serious case to be made for doing so if you want to keep one permanently docked and take one on the go. But that also means that if you are playing the same games across those systems, you will need a way to save across Switch devices. Fortunately, this is a relatively simple process in the majority of Nintendo Switch games, so you shouldn't have much difficulty making the literal switch back and forth between the two.How to save Nintendo Switch data using the cloudIt's that easy.Saving your Nintendo Switch game data in the cloud is the easiest and quickest way to save across Switch devices, as you've probably already done it without realizing it.In order to use Nintendo's cloud save data backup feature, you have to be a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber. Make sure the system you plan to take with you in handheld mode is set as your primary console. To do this, first turn on the other Switch, head to the eShop and click on your profile picture, select "Primary Console," and then choose and confirm the "Deregister" option.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

While the Top Gun franchise is largely thought of as synonymous with actor Tom Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Young Rock, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) has revealed in an interview that the star feels the same way about Val Kilmer. Speaking with People, Bruckheimer has shared a bit about why it was so important to get Kilmer back."[Cruise] said, 'We have to have Val, we have to have him back. We have to have him in the film,'" Bruckheimer says. "And he was the driving force. We all wanted him, but Tom was really adamant that if he's going to make another Top Gun, Val had to be in it."Indeed, Kilmer will be reprising his breakout role as Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, a fellow instructor and friend/former rival of Cruise's character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. This wasn't simply a matter of casting Kilmer--as documented in his recent documentary, Val, the actor was sidelined for several years since at least 2015, battling throat cancer. As also recently reported by People, Kilmer has been able to get his voice back thanks to AI technology.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A recent teardown video posted by YouTuber Austin Evans of Sony's new model of the PlayStation 5 has revealed how the console has managed to shed two-thirds of a pound. The console's new version reportedly sports a smaller heatsink, which naturally leads to some slightly raised internal temperatures, but that's no reason for concern. The console that Evans breaks down is a PS5 1100B, which consumers will see on store shelves (read: sold out on Amazon or Walmart) as the PS5 digital edition. This new version of the console weighs 7.8 lbs, whereas the original model came in around 8.4 lbs. Evans' video shows that nearly all that weight might have been cut from the console's heatsink. In testing, Evans found that this smaller heating solution meant that the console would run a tad bit hotter. Examining the console's rear exhaust vents while it was running Astro's Playroom, he found an increase in temperature of four to five degrees Celsius, with the console hitting a high of 58 degrees Celsius.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fortnite is leaking. It has been for years. In a community of its size, the perpetual stream of datamined details from players inspect the game's PC files with each new update makes sense. Fans are ravenous for information on what's coming down the content pipeline for one of the world's biggest platforms--be it new game modes, new weapons, or especially new collaborations like Marvel, Ariana Grande, and The Walking Dead. Maybe in some light, Epic would even say Fortnite's state of constantly being dissected by its players is a blessing. It's perhaps flattering to be so wanted rather than ignored, to which teams behind past failed live-service games can probably attest.By now, Epic surely knows to expect any secrets dumped into its files to be ripped out before their proper reveals, and for now, there seems to be no way around that. But lately, a different set of leaks has been appearing online. So far, they are proving to be credible, and some even speak to in-game events out of the reach of even the most restless dataminers. Someone is sharing the game's most secretive plans.Historically, the cadence of being a Fortnite fan has meant waking up to--or staying up for--recaps of everything dataminers like Hypex, iFireMonkey, and ShiinaBR uncover in their datamining efforts with the overnight patches the game receives roughly every few weeks. There's no shortage of Fortnite players like them who have built successful brands on YouTube and Twitter largely through sharing these Fortnite leaks, but there has always been much more they didn't have access to.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Peacock has announced the full cast for its upcoming adaptation of the popular YA book series Vampire Academy, which was greenlit earlier this year. In a release, Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat) was named as leading an expansive ensemble for the streaming show--which doesn't yet have a firm release date.Julie Plec, who co-developed and worked extensively on the CW's The Vampire Diaries, will help as showrun, write, executive produce, and director on the upcoming series. A synopsis for the series is as follows: "St. Vladmir's Academy isn't just any boarding school--it's a hidden place where vampire royals are educated and half-human teens train to protect them from the savage 'Strigoi' vampires who would like to see them destroyed." Here are the newly announced characters, straight from the release:Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat) will play Rose Hathaway, a vampire-human hybrid known as a Dhampir. Fiery and outspoken, Rose is a true fighter in spirit and in practice. She always jumps into action, and more often than not, this results in demerits. Daniela Nieves (Sex Appeal, Five Points) will play Lissa Dragomir, a Royal Moroi vampire. Growing up the younger sister to the heir apparent, Princess Vasilisa Dragomir is a carefree, kind-hearted, royal princess coasting through her studies and happily chasing fun. Kieron Moore (Masters of the Air, Sex Education) will play Dimitri Belikov, the model of a Dhampir guardian: lethal, disciplined, discreet, and totally committed to his role as bodyguard to the ruling Moroi, the "good," mortal vampires of his world. André Dae Kim (Degrassi, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) will play Christian Ozera, a Royal Moroi vampire. Intelligent and thoughtful, Christian is the pariah of the school and royal court, due to his parents' unforgivable societal sins. J. August Richards (Angel, Generation) will play Victor Dashkov. Victor is a Moroi noble vampire with a heart of gold who's highly regarded for his role as advisor and political strategist to Moroi dignitaries. Anita-joy Uwajeh (West End's Cyrano de Bergerac and King Lear), will play Tatiana Vogel. Tatiana is a Moroi vampire and political underdog who slowly takes the royal court by storm. Mia Mckenna-bruce (West End's Billy Elliot The Musical, The Dumping Ground) will play Mia Karp, a student at St. Vladimir's Academy. Witty, cutting, and just the right kind of ruthless when necessary, non-Royal Mia has a long-term plan to social climb her way into the ranks of royalty, with all the privilege and freedom that entails.Rhian Blundell (Torchwood: Believe, Doctor Who: The Dread of Night) will play Meredith, a smart, strong-willed Dhampir who is a keen observer, which makes her an excellent strategist and a valuable asset. She has little patience for Rose's volatility or Mia's elitism, and regularly calls both of them out.Jonetta Kaiser (Tales, Breakwater) will play Sonya Karp. Quiet, careful and decidedly odd, Sonya is not of royal bloodline and sits out on the fringe of Moroi society, preferring to spend her time in the library or her gardens. Andrew Liner (Grown-ish) will play Mason Ashford. Charming, loyal and popular, Mason is Rose's main competition in the quest to become the number one Guardian-in-training. Though their relationship is casual on her side, he is hopeful she will finally look at him and see him as something more.In addition to Plec, Marguerite MacIntyre (The Vampire Diaries) will showrun, write, and executive produce. Also, the show's upcoming directors will include Bille Woodruff (Black Lightning), Luis Prieto (White Lines), Jesse Warn (Supergirl), Erica Dunton (Dolly Parton's Heartstrings), and Geoff Shotz (Charmed).Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
