Halo developer 343 Industries has provided an update on some of the features coming to The Master Chief Collection in the future, including cross-play.In a blog post, the studio said cross-play between Xbox One and PC is currently "in test with our QA team," which suggests it may be ready for release relatively soon. More specifically, 343 said cross-play and other new features could begin to appear in MCC through an upcoming beta test, or "flight," for Halo 4 on PC. The beta test will also be available on Xbox One. To get in, you'll need to sign up for the free Halo Insider program and hope to be chosen.Cross-play will come to MCC with another new feature, the ability to select your preferred input device for matchmaking. This will give players the ability to choose who they play against when it comes to controls--that could be a big deal because mouse & keyboard is generally understood to be a more precise manner of controls compared to a gamepad. You can see a work-in-progress screenshot of the new menu below.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In 2015, Microsoft worked with Saber Interactive on a free-to-play Halo game for Russia called Halo Online. It was short-lived, however, as Microsoft canceled it before it even left beta. The game may get a new lease on life, as Microsoft has teased that maps from Halo Online could be incorporated into Halo: The Master Chief Collection in the future.Design director Max Szlagor said in a blog post that included among the many, many other new features that are being discussed for MCC are Halo Online maps. "Is there an opportunity to bring over some of the Halo Online maps? There’s a lot of options out there and it’s all dependent on what’s feasible and everything takes time and has to be measured against the bug list, backlog, and feature priorities," Szlagor said. "All in all, we are definitely looking towards more goodness and continuing with more seasons."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Steve, the hero of Minecraft, is joining the game, along with alternate Alex, Enderman, and Zombie skins, and the Internet is going wild. As it turns out, discussions about getting Steve into the game have been happening for a long time--at least five years, in fact.On Twitter, former Mojang employee Daniel Kaplan has been celebrating the announcement, and has revealed that discussions began long ago. After initially asking people to guess, he eventually revealed in a tweet that serious discussions first happened about five years ago, which would have been right around the time that development on Ultimate began.here's literally one of the cofounders of Mojang talking about how long it's been in developmenthttps://t.co/EIpY3fMIRO — Grimran Khan (@imranzomg) October 1, 20203 is not enough. No idea when implementation started :) — Kaplan (@Kappische) October 1, 2020Kaplan also recalled a fun story about a time Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS almost made him and some other Mojang team members miss a flight, so clearly the fighting series has some fans within the studio.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Nintendo is once again blurring the line between toys and digital entertainment with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, a "mixed reality" product that's part-RC car and part-video game. Developed jointly with Velan Studios, Home Circuit gives you the ability to create your own Mario Kart courses in real life. The key to this is a toy kart that you can drive around using your Switch. The kart features a camera that streams a video feed back to the system's screen, which the game then overlays with a HUD, item boxes, environmental hazards, and other Mario Kart trappings. It's a genuinely impressive conceit, the same kind of technological sleight of hand that made the company's various Labo kits--which combine peripherals you fashion out of cardboard with the Switch hardware--seem so mystifying when they were unveiled. Given how unorthodox it is, it may also be initially hard to wrap your head around, but Nintendo gave us a much better understanding of how it all works and what you can actually do in Mario Kart Live during a recent preview presentation. Here's what we learned.CompatibilityMario Kart Live is compatible with both the standard Nintendo Switch and the handheld-only Nintendo Switch Lite. If you have the standard model, you can also play in TV mode with the system docked. The game supports the Switch Pro Controller as well.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Control has beguiled players with its mysterious setting, The Oldest House, with its weird environments and twisty layouts. But it turns out there's some interesting stuff happening outside the game's departmental setting as well.Lance McDonald, who has become well-known for his game hacks, has produced a camera hack for the PS4 version of Control, and in his brief video of the tool on Twitter he's uncovered an interesting detail. Taking the camera outside of The Oldest House shows off the streets, which you don't see during gameplay, and there's more going on out there than you might expect. There are detailed buildings and streets out there, including a truck parked around the corner that is not visible at any point during the game. Better yet, the traffic outside seems to obey the road rules, queuing up at the lights. This outside area is curiously detailed, considering that you never venture out there during the game.Unlocked the debug free camera in Control for PlayStation 4 today. I already did this on PC the day the game released but PS4 hacking is cooler so I figured I should get around to doing it there too. pic.twitter.com/TfnHNAqmLf — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) October 1, 2020Hopefully McDonald will share anything else interesting he finds in Control. Previous interesting discoveries from McDonald include a hidden middle finger in God of War, some cut content from Sekiro, and some information about how P.T. works that somehow makes the Silent Hills demo even scarier.Control is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, but will only be available as a free upgrade for owners of the Ultimate Edition. The game's second DLC pack, AWE, released recently, directly tying this game to Remedy's earlier title Alan Wake.Info from Gamespot.com

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time has arrived on PS4 and Xbox One, and...well, it's about time. This direct sequel to 1998's Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped picked up right where the series left off, complete with a punishing difficulty and a lot of running into or out of the screen. This is actually, technically, the 8th Crash Bandicoot platformer, if we put aside the numerous handheld spin-off titles. Wrath of Cortex, Twinsanity, Crash of the Titans, and Mind Over Mutant are all being ignored here, with Crash Bandicoot 4 returning the series to its roots and following on directly from the classic PlayStation trilogy.Reviews have been coming in, and by and large they're heralding Crash Bandicoot 4 as a sharp, fun return for the character and series, which was originally developed by Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us). While some reviews have skewed more negatively than others, the game is sitting on an 86 on GameSpot sister site Metacritic from 32 reviews.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The increasingly popular reboot-sequel is a hard needle to thread. You have to create a game that hews close enough to the original to make nostalgic fans happy, while modernizing and innovating enough to resonate with new players. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time balances the two effortlessly. It impeccably preserves the vibrant look and feel of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy, while integrating new ideas and platforming possibilities. And like the original Crash games, the hybrid of Crash's old and new ideas will test your platforming skills in interesting new ways.Like its groan-inducing dad-joke of a subtitle says, Crash 4 is about time… travel. When the villains of Crash's past open an interdimensional portal, Crash and Coco have to collect a set of quantum masks in order to set things right. As with past Crash games, small exchanges in cutscenes between levels do a lot of narrative legwork. It's not much of a "story" per se, but Crash and his friends' charm fills in the gaps and makes you care enough to follow along.Crash 4's time-traveling story takes you to all sorts of times and places, including dinosaur-infested jungles, futuristic cities full of flying cars, and sunken pirate ships. Every place you go feels lush, full of color and detail, with a painterly quality that's simply wonderful to run through. My favorite is the Mardi Gras world, where Crash and Spyro balloons float in the background as you hop over neon-colored flames and trumpet valves. Occasionally, you'll run through an area and the camera will pull back to let you take in the scenery. The environments never failed to impress me with their visual depth.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Animal Crossing: New Horizons finally received its fall patch today, and while most players are excited to plant pumpkins and dress up in fancy Halloween costumes, it also had an unfortunate side effect that has left many of the game's die-hard fans upset. Some players updated their game only to find that their hacked items have faded away, ruining the carefully-constructed aesthetic of their island. As with previous Animal Crossing games, intrepid players have used external devices and exploits to get their hands on items buried in New Horizons' code that are unobtainable by other means. (Some players even specialize in visiting other islands and giving out these unauthorized items simply for fun.) These items include star fragment trees and the beloved Harv's fence, which was perceived by the community as an ideal fall decoration. Now, Harv's fence has slipped away, gone like tears in rain.To be clear, this doesn't affect all of the hacked items in New Horizons. However, Nintendo has definitely sent a message to the game's fanbase: Have fun within the dotted lines, please. Some players are also reporting problems with the game's confusing poster system and its associated catalog, and it's not yet clear if this is intended behavior. Considering Nintendo has just announced that it's bringing back Animal Crossing Amiibo cards, which allow players to collect posters, it's probably yet another crackdown to prevent player cooperation.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

PlayStation has revealed the next pair of free PS4 games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Starting October 6, members can snag Vampyr and Need for Speed Payback. Before October's freebies take the stage, make sure you have September's free games, Street Fighter V and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, in your library.Developed by Dontnod Entertainment--the studio behind the Life is Strange series--Vampyr is an action-RPG that flew under the radar when it released in 2018. You play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a man who took a hippocratic oath to help the citizens of London but now finds himself a newly turned vampire. This understandably creates a moral dilemma, and there's also a widespread influenza outbreak that is threatening the population. Your choices in Vampyr truly matter, altering both the gameplay and the story. It earned a 7/10 in GameSpot's Vampyr review.Racing fans can pick up Need for Speed Payback, the 2017 entry in the long-running series developed by Ghost Games. Payback is set in an open-world environment based off of Las Vegas. Payback has both online multiplayer and a single-player story mode featuring three playable characters with differentiated skills. It has more than 70 vehicles to race with. While Payback is definitely one of the more underwhelming entries in the series--it earned a 5/10 in our Need for Speed Payback review--now you can check it out for free.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
