Following last week's update to Gears 5, which added next-gen optimizations for the Xbox Series X / Series S, the game is getting perhaps its largest update yet. Alongside the launch of Operation 5: Hollow Storm, the patch introduces five maps, seven characters, and brings the Scorcher flamethrower back into the fold.As revealed by the patch's copious patch notes below, the nostalgia-themed update adds many new features and optimizations to Gears 5, including the return of several beloved characters from Gears 2 and 3, like Dizzy Wallin and Skorge. In addition, the game's traditional multiplayer modes now run at a locked 120 frames per second on Xbox Series X/S.Operation 5 also brings major changes to the game's other multiplayer modes, particularly Horde and Escape. The update has decoupled character and class, meaning that you can pair any character with any class, instead of playing the character with the weapons and abilities you need to win. Finally, my all-Batista dream team can destroy all comers.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Assassins' Creed Valhalla, the Viking-era open-world action-adventure game, has "sold through more units in its first week" than any other entry in the long-running franchise. According to Ubisoft, Valhalla has had the biggest Assassin's Creed game launch in history. The game is also the biggest launch on PC for a Ubisoft game. The company said in a press release that Assassin's Creed Valhalla has become the "top-selling Ubisoft PC launch ever."Ubisoft provided no metrics for how well Assassin's Creed Valhalla is doing, nor did it specify whether these impressive sales were due to digital or physical sell-through. Ubisoft shared the same sort of sentiment last year when Odyssey launched, saying the Greek-era open-world action-adventure game outpaced Origins' first-week sales. The last game in the franchise that was a big splash, however, was Assassin's Creed III with 3.5 million units sold in its first week.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Assassin's Creed Valhalla connects the Viking age to the deep Assassin's Creed lore, which means there are plenty of secrets to uncover. One such mystery is the pathway to the Well of Urdr in Asgard, as part of the Well-Traveled quest. The way is blocked by gates that respond to beams of light, and you know what that means: it's time for a mirror puzzle. As you may expect if you've encountered mirror puzzles in other games, the goal is simply to position the beam of light towards a node that will unlock the gates. As the puzzles get trickier, you'll need to split or reflect the beams to make them hit more than one target. What makes the Well of Urdr puzzle especially tricky is that the cave is very dark, so you won't necessarily be able to see the entire solution clearly. That means you'll have to use some more trial and error to get the positioning right--but knowing where to look should help. The first light beam is easy, since it simply introduces you to the concept. When you progress to the second part of the puzzle, aim the light source upward, toward the back of the room between the two large trees. That reflector will split the beam into two separate beams running in opposite directions.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Ubisoft's upcoming foray into the Greek mythological world of (to use the game's original name) gods and monsters, will receive post-launch content drops and DLC. The game's $40 season pass will consist of three DLC drops, each of which will introduce new areas to play through. The first DLC, A New God, has you playing as Fenyx again after the end of the campaign. It takes place in Olympus Palace, and sees Fenyx taking on the Trials of the Olympians under the eyes of the Greek gods. The next two DLC releases will take players to different places. Myths of the Eastern Realm, the second DLC, introduces Ku as a playable character with a unique new fighting style. This one is based on Chinese mythology rather than Greek. The third, The Lost Gods, returns to Greek myth but reinvents the game as a top-down brawler. The new hero this time is called Ash, and they're trying to bring back--as the name suggests--lost gods. You can check out a trailer for the Season Pass below. There will also be a bonus quest for Season Pass owners, where Fenyx teams up with Hermes for an adventure. On top of all of this, you can expect regular free content drops following the game's release. Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Snyder Cut is no longer simply a fan campaign, but an inevitability. Set to come out in 2021, the 2017 theatrical film has transformed into a 4-part miniseries that will air stream on HBO Max. As director Zack Snyder hypes the film, other members of the cast and crew are helping him get the word out. Hot on the heels of Snyder's new trailer, we have some behind-the-scenes stills courtesy Justice League cinematographer Fabian Wagner's Instagram. The first shot features Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman looking at a mural of villain Darkseid while holding a torch. She's also wearing some comfy-looking boots, but we're going to guess that those probably won't make it into the final shot. The photo is presumably from the same scene we saw in Snyder's DC FanDome teaser back in June. View this post on InstagramA post shared by Fabian Wagner (@fabianwagnerdop)Another shot from Wagner gives us a look at Diane Lane as Martha Kent. Wagner calls the photo a "cheeky snapshot of the beautiful Diane Lane." Wagner calls her lovely to work with and says he "can't wait to see that scene." This scene appears to be something new for Snyder's version of the film.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Minecraft Dungeons has now received its free crossplay update, and players across all systems can team up. No matter if you have Minecraft Dungeons on PC and Xbox One through Xbox Game Pass, or you've bought it on those systems or PS4/Switch, you can now team up with anyone else who has the game. The development team has announced on the Minecraft website that the update is live now, and that cloud saves are also "coming soon". This means that you'll soon be able to pick up your progress from any new system; buy the game on PC, for example, and then play it on the go from a Nintendo Switch. The game can also be played via Cloud Gaming if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in the US. It even has custom touch controls. The exact date on this update has not been announced yet, but hopefully it won't be a long wait. There's also a third DLC pack coming to the game, called Howling Peaks. The Minecraft spin-off scored a 7/10 in our Minecraft Dungeons review. Reviewer Steve Watts wrote: "Rather than shift our expectations of what games can be, it's banking on its own popularity to introduce younger players to a classic genre and serves as a short-but-sweet treat for looter vets. It scratches the dungeon-crawler itch with a sense of goofy charm and expands what Minecraft can be."Info from Gamespot.com

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War released recently, and right now one weapon is absolutely dominating the online multiplayer. As PC Gamer reports, players have been complaining about the absolute domination of the MP5--a starter gun that far outpowers many of the later unlockable weapons. The MP5, which has an incredible fire-rate with high damage and great range with little recoil, has become the favorite weapon of many players, and many are calling for a nerf.According to professional player 100T Nadeshot, the MP5 "might be the most over powered SMG in Call of Duty history". Right now there's not a lot of variety in multiplayer because of how long it takes to level other weapons, he says.MP5 in Cold War might be the most over powered SMG in Call of Duty history. That, or weapon and leveling progression takes so long that there isn’t a ton of gun variety in pubs. — 100T Nadeshot (@Nadeshot) November 14, 2020It's worth remembering, though, that any multiplayer game releasing in 2020 was developed in less-than-ideal conditions due to COVID-19, and testing for balance has been harder than ever. Lead designer Tony Flame has promised balance changes for the start of Season 1.Another odd problem players have encountered is that their new PS5s are downloading the PS4 version. As with any console launch, there have been teething issues.GameSpot's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War review is currently in-progress, but it's currently sitting on an 8/10 thanks to a strong campaign.Info from Gamespot.com
