Microsoft has focused a lot of energy over the last few years into making Xbox more accessible, with the Xbox Adaptive Controller being a positive step towards addressing the unique needs of players. A product of the Xbox accessibility movement and a team of engineers in the Xbox gaming division, the controller went through numerous iterations when it was in development. Direct feedback from gaming and disabled communities helping to shape the final product into its current form."The Xbox Adaptive Controller looks absolutely nothing like the first prototype created," Brannon Zahand, Microsoft's senior gaming accessibility program manager, explained to Game Informer. "It changed many, many times over the course of development. The reason was that we built the device with the Gaming & Disability Community, not for them. As such, feedback constantly was rolling in that forced us to continually re-examine the design of the product during development."Microsoft focused primarily on people with limited mobility for the controller, prioritizing continuity and compatibility so that users could adapt quickly to the new physical language of this device. The Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S also feature accessibility functionality in their software, such as speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and a narrator, making the gaming experience more helpful for a wide variety of gamers.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem launched earlier this year in a rough state, with numerous technical issues and some unbalanced gameplay souring a visually striking actionRPG. It's been a while since developer Wolcen Studio provided an update on the game, but it turns out the studio has been working on the first part of a major gameplay and content update over the past few months.Chronicle I: Bloodtrail is the first of these updates that will be entirely free for all Wolcen players, adding in new gameplay changes, economy updates, and content to the game. The update is said to be coming soon in the announcement on Steam, with specific details about the patch coming closer to release. One change that Wolcen Studio did detail is the split this update will create moving forward. Any characters you currently have in Wolcen will be marked as "legacy", while new ones will be tied to the new content. Since the entire economy is being reworked, Wolcen Studio will not allow players to trade between legacy and new characters, but will still support legacy play through a separate Legacy game mode that delivers the same experience pre-patch.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A year and a half after it debuted as an online companion to Red Dead Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online has managed to create a unique identity for itself in the competitive online gaming space as a gritty and realistic cowboy simulator that offers a more meditative experience. While you can play Red Dead Online as an outlaw roaming the Wild West in pursuit of a high noon shootout, many of the game's players prefer to eke out a living as naturalists and moonshiners, enjoying a more pacifistic approach to the old frontier that Rockstar created."With Red Dead Online, we're trying to deliver every aspect of what it might be like to live in frontier America in the late 1800s, so it offers a huge variety of options for players to create the experience they want within that world," Tarek Hamad, director of design production at Rockstar North, said to GamesRadar. "By designing it in this way, there's room for players of all kinds."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Black Friday 2020 has a selection of excellent SSD and HDD deals on some of the best ones, too, making it easy to save some money on extra storage. Amazon and Best Buy have some particularly great Black Friday deals, including discounts on Samsung's popular T5 and T7 portable SSDs as well as the ultra-fast Seagate FireCuda gaming SSD. While SSDs are fast, they don't have as much storage, so there are also several great HDD options, including the 5TB WD Black game drive and an assortment of Seagate external drives. If you have an Xbox Series X/S, then you can store next-gen games on your external drive. However, you will need to transfer them back to the console when you want to play them. Backwards-compatible games, on the other hand, can be stored and played on external drives and see some benefits to load times when compared to the Xbox One X. The PS5, on the other hand, does not let you store next-gen games on external drives, and while you can play backwards-compatible games on them, you don't see a significant improvement in loading.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Black Friday 2020 has brought an onslaught of game deals across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and while we spend a ton of time talking about the discounts on AAA titles, Black Friday is a great opportunity to pick up some lesser-known games for your winter backlog. One such game is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, which launched in Japan last year but released worldwide this past September. If you're a fan of narrative-driven games, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a must-play, and it's on sale for 50% off during Black Friday. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim $30 (was $60) | PS4, PS5 Both Amazon and GameStop have 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for $30 during Black Friday, down from its list price of $60. This is a physical PS4 game that you can also play on PS5 if you have the version with a disc drive. See at Amazon See at GameStop I started playing 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim a little over a week ago, and it already ranks in my personal top five games of 2020. It's a cross-genre title, combining visual novel-esque dialogue scenes with realtime strategy combat that takes place in a post-apocalyptic future. The premise: 13 high-schoolers are drawn into war against violent kaiju, which are destroying cities and threatening mankind's existence. The kids fight back using giant mechs, or sentinels, and the realtime battles cover their time in the war. However, the narrative in Aegis Rim is anything but linear, and the game also includes adventure side-scrolling segments where you play as one of the teens and slowly put together their story. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is nominated for Best Narrative at this year's Game Awards for good reason--its story is gripping, and though the battle sequences are fun, I'm most eager to see how all of these story threads interlink by the end.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

David S. Goyer has been attached to some major films over the last 20 years--including the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v Superman, and Terminator: Dark Fate--but in games, he's best known for his work on the Call of Duty: Black Ops series. Goyer has story credits on Black Ops and Black Ops II, and he was brought back for Black Ops Cold War, the latest game in the series. Now, in an interview on the official Call of Duty blog, Goyer has explained some of the philosophy behind his work on the series.Reflecting on the first two Black Ops games, Goyer said that he had been excited to move into games when he was invited to do a script polish for the original. "I think the game was about two thirds of the way finished at that point, and I punched up the script and I made some other suggestions," he recalls. "It was fascinating for me--it was just a different medium in the way that you convey exposition is entirely different."After that, he was asked to be involved in Black Ops II "from the ground up," and he was able to get some interesting storytelling choices through. "I love the idea that there are multiple endings that can be achieved, depending on the moral choices that I make throughout the game," "he says. It was something that I was really pleased to see that Treyarch and Raven were continuing on with this new game. I liked the idea that actions have consequences."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
