Like The Mandalorian Season 2 before it, WandaVision should be "event television"--a show that everyone you know, in person and on social media, is watching at the same time, creating a communal viewing experience. But by pointlessly adhering to the totally arbitrary "midnight release" practice that's become standard across the streaming landscape, Disney does its fans a disservice. Fans who want to keep up with WandaVision need to stay up into the early hours of the morning every Thursday night, or risk being spoiled the following day until they're able to actually sit down and watch each new episode. Meanwhile, fans who do stay up late to catch each episode have to carefully tiptoe around discussions for days afterward to avoid spoiling it for others. Everyone is robbed of the social experience that a show like WandaVision should embody.Of course, this isn't only a Disney+ problem. But it's a worse problem for Disney than it is for competitors. Yes, Netflix tends to drop entire seasons at midnight. But when new episodes of a Netflix show like Cobra Kai Season 3 arrive, the conversation is only temporarily staggered; since all the episodes drop at once, it's understood that everyone will eventually catch up, and after a few days or a week, the statute on spoilers relaxes. On the other hand, big Disney+ shows have so far stuck to a traditional week-to-week release schedule, exacerbating the problem by drawing it out over weeks and months. Friday after Friday, fans find themselves out of sync with their peers.Meanwhile, other streaming platforms suffer from the exact same issue. Amazon, for example, dropped each episode of The Boys Season 2 at midnight Pacific time, and released them week-to-week just like Disney does. That was bad enough; all streaming platforms should reconsider this practice. But "event television" shows on most other streaming platforms are relatively infrequent--largely thanks to Disney's complete control of some of the world's biggest franchises. The King's Man is the latest movie in the Kingsman series. GeForce Now launched out of beta almost a year ago, but it's taken that long for the service to finally have a curated list of supported games released by Nvidia.The list is the biggest part of this week's update to the service, allowing you to quickly see which games that you currently own can be streamed. As part of Epic Games' Spring Showcase, the company announced that Axiom Verge 2 will be coming to PC via the Epic Games Store. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer showing off some new footage for the upcoming game.Axiom Verge 2 had previously only been confirmed for release on Switch, so this is the first word that it will be on PC as well. It was announced as an EGS exclusive, and saved as a "one more surprise" announcement near the end of the presentation. Martin Scorsese's next big movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, has added another star who will appear alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Deadline is reporting that Lily Gladstone has been hired to play a lead role in the upcoming drama about the true story of the members of Osage Nation who were brutally murdered in the 1920s.Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma during a time when the Osage Nation Native American tribe found oil under their homeland. After this discovery, high-ranking members of the Native American group were murdered one by one. The story is based on real events and is adapted by Eric Roth from the book by David Grann.Gladstone--who herself is of Native American heritage and lived on reservations for 11 years--plays Mollie Burkhart, a member of the Osage tribe who is married to Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio). In November, a Memphis-based movie theater chain called Malco Theaters started renting out its screens. Now, theaters in South Korea are starting to do the same.Since November, Malco has been allowing up to 20 people to rent a screen at $100 for two hours or $150 for 3 hours. The company has 36 theaters across Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Kentucky, and the practice has been gaining traction, but not enough. According to Malco VP Karen Melton: "It is gaining traction, and is becoming popular, but nothing is adding to our profitability at this point."Theaters have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, with both US and Global revenue dropping significantly in 2020 according to Variety.
