With the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, there's increased interest around not only 4K TVs but also monitors that take full advantage of the next-gen consoles' power. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will work well on almost any quality screen, but you'll need a monitor with HDMI 2.1 to take full advantage of the consoles' capabilities and play games in 4K at 120fps. At the moment, there are no monitors on the market that boast HDMI 2.1 ports, but if you're not looking to take advantage of 4K and 120Hz at the same time, you can save some money on a more affordable monitor. Before we get into our recommendations, here's what you need to know about picking the best monitor for PS5 or Xbox Series X right now. What is HDMI 2.1?HDMI 2.1 is the latest HDMI spec that can transmit 48Gbps of information, which allows for a 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR. HDMI 2.1 also provides two benefits to gaming specifically. Variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low-latency mode (ALLM) offer a smooth, tearless image and virtually no lag between your inputs and the action. The PS5 and Xbox Series X both boast HDMI 2.1 and can display gameplay at 4K and 120Hz--the PS5, however, does not currently feature support for any adaptive sync, including VRR, FreeSync, and G-Sync.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Microsoft has made a habit of dropping Easter eggs in its remote streams during the coronavirus pandemic. So with the Bethesda-Xbox roundtable event celebrating the acquisition, surely we were going to be teased about the setting of Elder Scrolls VI, a Starfield-themed Xbox console, and the blood type of Doomguy, right? As it turns out, nope. That may be in part because of the venue. Rather than a remote event in which we spied on the offices of various Xbox executives, this one was held at Bethesda headquarters. That office space has plenty of Bethesda decor, ranging from a life-sized Doom Slayer to Corvo's mask from Dishonored, but none of that seems to be particularly new or unexpected. An inside look at Bethesda HQPhil Spencer rocking a Skyrim shirtThe one remote call came from Xbox head of partnerships Sarah Bond, who joined in from Xbox headquarters in Redmond. Similarly, her background was adorned with framed art based on huge Xbox franchises like Halo and Minecraft, and less-huge Xbox franchises like State of Decay.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

When Fallout 76 released with its numerous issues, Bethesda's Todd Howard made a phone call to Xbox boss Phil Spencer that ended up helping to turn things around.During the Bethesda-Microsoft briefing on Thursday, Howard recalled that Spencer was one of the first people he called when things went south with Fallout 76. Spencer directed Howard to some people at Xbox who gave Howard and his team at Bethesda some good advice about how to turn the ship around and get Fallout 76 back on the right path. As has been well-documented, Fallout 76 struggled at launch, both in terms of performance and stability, as well as claims from fans that it was not a true Fallout game because of its online nature and the absence of NPCs."When that game launched, the litany of issues we had, we let a lot of people down," Howard said of Fallout 76. "There was very little we didn't screw up, honestly. One of the people that I called was Phil. I said, 'Hey you know there's many things we're dealing with, what advice do you have?' And he put me in touch with some people at Xbox who were able to look at all of the games in the system and what was important and what wasn't important for games that made it for the long-haul."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

This week on Wrestle Buddies, GameSpot's professional wrestling podcast, Chris E. Hayner and Mat Elfring present two of the most notable strange occurrences in the professional wrestling industry during the 1990s. And, shockingly, one of them had almost nothing to do with pro wrestling. Still, they both somehow included Lex Luger.First up, we head back to 1999 and WCW's infamous finger poke of doom. Do you remember the time Hulk Hogan beat Kevin Nash for the WCW World Championship by tapping him on the chest? Of course, you do, because you're as ridiculous as we are. What you might not remember is Goldberg's role in the entire debacle, how it was obviously a sign of the times in WCW, and which incarnation of the NWO was involved. Then, we're jumping even further back in time to revisit Vince McMahon's first non-wrestling endeavor. Sure, you remember the XFL. What about the WBF, though? Once upon a time, Vince loved bodybuilding so much that he launched the World Bodybuilding Federation. You might not know that, though, because it didn't last very long. Still, like with the finger poke of doom, Lex Luger somehow plays a role--as does Incredible Hulk star Lou Ferrigno and an episode of the game show Family Feud.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The still untitled The Boys spin-off has added Lizze Broadway (Bones, NCIS) and Jaz Sinclair (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Vampire Diaries) to the cast, according to Variety. The spin-off was fast-tracked suddenly last year on the strength of the Prime Video series, which isn't a total shock given the original series was an adaptation of an already successful comic book series.Broadway and Sinclair are the first announced cast members for the spin-off, which will take place at a college for young superheroes, run by the ominous Vought International--the evil corporation that controls The Seven. The spin-off has previously been described as "an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games--with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys."All that's known about the new cast members is Sinclair will play Marie, and Broadway will play Emma--both young superheroes. The spin-off has not yet officially been ordered to go to series, but cast members being announced is a good sign that it's a likely bet.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Call of Duty content creator Brad "Drif0r" Overbey uploaded a brand-new video to his YouTube channel talking about how he "almost died" when people swatted his home.About halfway through a video titled "Low Testosterone almost killed me," Drift0r mentioned how 2019 and 2020's swattings contributed to his ongoing battle with low testosterone. He said he "almost died four or five times" as armed people approached his Texas home."I got swatted a couple of times last year," Drift0r starts at about the 12-minute mark. "There was an ongoing issue with harrassment. Another creator streamed one of his fans coming to my house with a ski mask and a gun in what I personally assumed was going to be an armed home invasion. Police took care of that in my front lawn, thankfully. And just a whole ton of crazy, bizarre stuff. I almost died four of five times. There were other people that were armed."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Borderlands 3's Director's Cut DLC has been delayed to April due to complications from the recent severe weather and power outages in Texas. Gearbox issued a statement saying that the conditions "unavoidably disrupted" its work, forcing it to push back the add-on by a few weeks. The new release date is April 8.The Director's Cut had been set for March 18, a date that was set in early February. But a severe winter storm hit Texas and surrounding regions on February 13, causing widespread blackouts and other infrastructure problems. Many Texans had no heat and frozen pipes for several days, and the death toll reached 70 in the United States.Thankfully, Gearbox says, its employees are all safe. But the studio, based near Dallas, TX, was impacted by the storm regardless. It says it has now shifted the Director's Cut date to "deliver the best possible experience."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Netflix password sharing is so common that there's a good chance you're not the one paying for the account you're using right now. Netflix knows you're doing it, though, and it wants you to stop, dangit. Netflix is now testing measures to limit password sharing, and some users are beginning to notice, according to a report from The Streamable. The streaming giant is now prompting some people to sign up for a separate account if they're watching on a connection different from that of the subscriber, the site reports. The message says, "If you don't live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching."Netflix has typically been quiet about the practice of password sharing. The company has data on every account, every profile, and every IP address that accesses its service, so they know what we're doing when we lend that password out. It's unclear how Netflix decides a given stream is unauthorized. The terms of service only disallow password sharing "with individuals beyond your household." Even a small family with two parents and a teenager can already include three mobile phones and a couple of laptops that might connect at home, work, and school. With viewers so mobile, it will be interesting to see whether Netflix can manage this without becoming overly draconian.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Have you ever wondered why brand-new televisions with massive, bright, and vivid screens are so cheap these days? It's all about the ads. Once relegated to the cheapest televisions, owners of LG's flagship CX line are now discovering that they, too, are enjoying unprompted advertising on their television sets, according to a report from The Verge. The Verge's Chris Welch was updating streaming apps on his television when an ad popped up and played with sound in the corner of his screen without a way to skip it or stop it. It was a short one, but a pop-up, hover-over ad all the same. Other users on Twitter and Reddit have noticed the same behavior, so this doesn't appear to be an isolated occurrence. What's new about this is that the LG CX television Welch witnessed the ad on is one of the brand's upper-middle range televisions, the ones that users buy for a premium experience. Every smart TV has ads to some degree, but this a step beyond ads showing up in the corner of the app browser or input menu.A 2019 interview by The Verge with Vizio Chief Technology Officer Bill Baxter does a good job of explaining this. "This is a cutthroat industry. It's a 6% margin industry. The greater strategy is I really don't need to make money off of the TV. I need to cover my cost," Baxter said. "It's not just about data collection, it's about post-purchase monetization of the TV."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Bungie is making a number of adjustments to Stasis abilities in Destiny 2 with its March 16 update to the game, which should make players in the PvP-focused Crucible very happy (or very angry). A number of Stasis powers are getting nerfed, including the ubiquitous Shatterdive ability and the strength of the Duskfield grenade.A preview of the changes are outlined in Destiny 2's This Week at Bungie blog post, which outlines how Bungie is adjusting each of the three Stasis subclasses. The Hunter Shatterdive ability is losing its damage resistance, which should help players combat the extremely lethal move. The Warlock Stasis Super's projectiles will now have better tracking, but the explosive power used to shatter Stasis crystals won't deal as much damage. And Titans will no longer freeze nearby PvP opponents when they activate their Super abilities. There are a number of other changes in the blog post--they're all listed below--but they're generally only taking effect in PvP play; Stasis abilities are remaining mostly the same in PvE activities.Stasis abilities have been dominant in the Crucible since the release of the Beyond Light expansion, much to the chagrin of many Destiny 2 players. There have been a lot of complaints about the new abilities, particularly Shatterdive, which allows Hunters to leap into the air and slam down, shattering nearby Stasis crystals. Those crystals are extremely deadly when they explode, and Shatterdive provided Hunters with a bunch of damage resistance when executing the move, making them nearly unkillable--and pushing players to center all their play around the ability.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Adrift in space, a ship faces a terrifying crisis: Some of its members are no longer human, and plan to take over the vessel to offer it to an otherworldly being known only as the Gnos. To succeed, these beings--the Gnosia--must kill the other crew members, one by one, and deceive the others into thinking that innocent crew are the enemy. Trapped in a terrifying time loop that only you and another crew member are aware of, you must protect the ship from the threat of the Gnosia--or, as fate might dictate, eagerly destroy everything for your sinister overlord. If you're thinking that this concept sounds a lot like a certain multiplayer game that's become extremely popular over the last year, you're not wrong--the similarities in concept between Gnosia and Among Us are undeniable. But Gnosia, which released a few years back on the PS Vita and only recently came to Switch in English, takes that concept and puts a very different spin on it. By utilizing a visual novel-like presentation, RPG-like mechanics, a great cast of characters, and a multi-layered story, Gnosia presents you with a very different take on the social deduction game--one that, despite some stumbles, succeeds quite admirably. When you begin Gnosia, you meet Setsu, an unassuming green-haired crewmember who briefs you on what's going on. Besides yourself, Setsu is the only other person on board who is fully aware of what's happening: that everyone on the ship is trapped in a horrifying time loop where one or more of the crew--including you--have been infected by the Gnosia. Unfortunately, Gnosia infection can't be determined visually, so each day, the crew votes on someone to send to cold sleep until all Gnosia are eliminated. With each loop, things change dramatically: the crew members on board, the amount of Gnosia, and what roles everyone plays. And sometimes, completely unexpected things happen beyond the control of even the humans or the Gnosia. With Setsu as your aide--and sometimes Gnosia-infected enemy--you must figure out a way to escape from this eternal hell by looping as many times as it takes to solve the mystery.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
