Hood: Outlaws & Legends is an upcoming Robin Hood-inspired PvPvE game where two teams of four players face off on the same heist. You don't often see too many player-versus-player-versus-environment games, where players face off against each other and computer-controlled characters. I caught up with Hood game director Andrew Willans to ask why the team is opting for a PvPvE experience as opposed to a more traditional PvP or PvE one.As it turns out, developer Sumo Digital initially brainstormed PvP and PvE concepts for Hood. In the end, both had their shortcomings and the studio found a good balance combining the gameplay loops of the two. "The initial concept was far more PvE-focused, and while it would have been fun to take that journey, it's also quite costly," Willans said. "When you look at doing PvE, even if you do co-op PvE, there's a certain element of linearity to the narrative and storytelling that's required."Willans said that the team behind Hood is quite small, and thus not able to deliver on the same level of linear PvE storytelling that, as examples he provided, Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio managed to achieve with games like The Last of Us and God of War. That gave Sumo Digital the nudge to go for a PvP game that tells its story through a morality system, environmental details, and collectibles.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Developer Larian Studios has released a new hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3. Hotfix 10 is aimed at balancing the loaded dice feature added in Patch 4. Previously, turning on the feature could accidentally doom you to terrible luck. The perk of loaded dice is to ensure that you're not completely reliant on chance. If you get a string of bad luck, the loaded dice will favor you to have a few good rolls. However, folks have been complaining that the loaded dice are too weighted to the adverse effect as well, forcing streaks of bad luck on players if they happen to get several good rolls in a row."We noticed in your feedback that the RNG wasn't feeling fun for you," Larian Studios wrote in a blog post. "We've seen the dice described as being harsh, cursed, rigged and someone said the RNG was downright evil. We want you to have the best experience possible when playing the game and so the changes in [April 15's] hotfix are here to help with your hit chance, if you're playing with loaded dice."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Dora Milaje, the Wakandan royal guard, are not to be trifled with, and we all knew when they appeared in last week's episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier that an explosive battle was on the way. Ahead of Falcon and the Winter Soldier's penultimate episode, Marvel Studios has released a featurette spotlighting Wakanda's fiercest warriors. The video looks to director Kari Skogland, as well as stars Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), and Wyatt Russel (John Walker/new Captain America), for their thoughts on the fighters."When we show up, you don't know how many are around," Kasuma says, speaking to the guards' identical uniforms and looks combined with their strategic prowess in intentionally concealing their numbers.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Earlier today, a new Super Monkey Ball game titled Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania was listed on The Australian Classifications board, seemingly indicating a new entry in the long-running franchise is coming. If this leak follows the same timeline as the last entry in the Super Monkey Ball series--which was rated by the board on July 16, 2019 and released only three months later--it's possible game could be just around the corner. The news comes nearly a year after the game was teased by voice actor Matt Brian, who has shared multiple Instagram posts indicating that a new game is in development. If confirmed, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will be the first original Super Monkey Ball game released on consoles in nearly a decade, a welcome sight for weary Sega fans who might have been a bit let down by 2019's Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD. Despite Banana Blitz HD's reception, its release could mean something exciting for the next entry in the series: a release across all consoles and PC.For those unfamiliar with the first entry in the series, simply titled Super Monkey Ball, it was the first Sega title published on a Nintendo console due to the failure of the Dreamcast. The puzzle game received high praise from critics, with GameSpot's review stating "GameCube owners couldn't ask for a better party game to play with friends." In addition to providing a fun multiplayer experience with mini-games such as Monkey Target, the series also boasts a challenging single-player campaign.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

This review has been updated to include the experience of playing DIsco Elysium: The Final Cut. The additional review text that addresses the new version of the game is included at the bottom of the review as its own section.Memories can be painful. Recalling them can result in feelings of regret, anger, shame, embarrassment, and worse. Much, much worse. In Disco Elysium, a mesmerising, hilarious and at times harrowing narrative-heavy RPG, recollecting a memory can prove fatal. For an amnesiac, alcoholic cop struggling with a new murder case with elusive details, and the world's worst hangover, remembering the person he was offers a path to redemption for the person he might become. After all, memories that don't kill you make you stronger.Disco Elysium presents as an RPG in the mold of Baldur's Gate or Divinity: Original Sin. Indeed, it opens with a nod to Planescape Torment with a semi-naked figure lying on a cold, hard slab before slowly rising to his feet--only the slab isn't in a mortuary, it's in a cheap motel room, and the figure wasn't recently dead, he's just still drunk. Very, very drunk. It proceeds with the traditional top-down view of the world, your party members traversing beautiful, hand-painted 2D environments, pausing to inspect objects and talk to people. There are quests to initiate, experience to gain, levels to up, dialogue trees to climb, and skill checks to fail. Yet in all kinds of other ways--thematically and mechanically--Disco Elysium is very unlike other RPGs.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

On April 14, award-winning composer Martin O’Donnell joined TikTok, uploading a piano rendition of the iconic Halo theme accompanied by vocals from O’Donnell’s dog, Baxter. In the short clip, the former Bungie composer is seen grinning as he plays a few of the theme's iconic notes while his dog howls along in the background. O’Donnell says he joined the popular video-sharing network after being encouraged by "folks on Clubhouse," and shared his foray into the world of Gen Z dance moves over on Twitter along with a tweet asking, "so, how do I get followers on TikTok?"Just posted my first TikTok vid. Let me know if you like it. pic.twitter.com/caC0IV9OKW — Marty O'Donnell (@MartyTheElder) April 14, 2021From 1997 to 2014, O'Donnell worked alongside Michael Salvatori at Bungie, creating award-winning soundtracks for games such as Oni, Myth, Destiny, and, of course, the Halo series. Together, O'Donnell and Salvatori created the soundtracks for the first three Halo games as well as Halo Reach, the last Halo title Bungie worked on before leaving the series to create Destiny. Since the studio's departure, 343 Industries has taken over development on the series, releasing several new games with a handful of different composers working on the various titles. For Halo Infinite, the next entry in the series coming later this year, Gareth Coker of Ori fame is in charge of composing the game's soundtrack.Following his work on Destiny, O'Donnell was fired from Bungie, marking the beginning of a year-long legal battle between him and the studio. Ultimately, the court sided with O'Donnell, stating Bungie violated his contract when they terminated him "without cause." Since his departure from the studio, O'Donnell has founded his own studio, Highwire Games, which released the PSVR title Golem back in 2019 and is currently working on the controversial Six Days in Fallujah.Info from Gamespot.com
