Superman is Clark Kent and Batman is Bruce Wayne, but since the very beginning Green Lantern has been a title, and the Lanterns are legion. DC has now cast a second Lantern for its upcoming HBO Max series: the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott.Actor Jeremy Irvine announced on Instagram this week that he'll be stepping into the role of Alan Scott. Scott was the very first Green Lantern, debuting in July 1940. In the original story, Scott was a railroad engineer who finds a magical lantern. Scott has come and gone in the comics over the years, but in 2012 the character came out as gay, and in that timeline was the head of a media empire. In the HBO Max series, he'll be playing a closeted gay FBI agent in the year 1941, according to TVLine. While Scott has appeared in Smallville and Stargirl, this will be the first live-action appearance that deals with his sexual orientation.HBO Max announced the series in 2019. Just last month, movement began on the series once again as the studio cast Finn Wittrock as Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Epic Games recently showcased Unreal Engine 5 and announced that the next-generation game development toolsuite is now available in early access ahead of its planned public release in early 2022. They touched on numerous exciting updates about Unreal Engine 5, including how it will allow for a new level of visual fidelity that wasn't possible before and how, overall, the engine gives power to developers to streamline their workflows and create games faster and more efficiently. The overall idea for Unreal Engine was to create "new, better, streamlined" development workflows, Penwarden says. Garbage Pail Kids, the popular '80s sticker trading cards intended to parody the then popular Cabbage Patch Kids, are reportedly now being considered for a revival animated series at HBO Max, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Actor Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), with his production company Rough House Pictures, is currently collaborating with collectibles manufacturer Topps and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner's Tornante on the planned show.If you're of a certain age, the mere mention of Garbage Pail Kids no doubt conjures up images of their gross-out and grotesque humor--aspects that drove the cards to runaway success, but also caused them to be banned in many schools at the time. That polarizing reception also propelled the cards in 1987 to a lesser known TV series that never aired on our shores, but ran for 13 episodes elsewhere. Also that year, Garbage Pail mania was in full effect, with a live-action film about the trading cards also hitting theaters. It's unknown whether McBride will lend his voice to any of the characters in the potential series, but his presence is a good sign for the direction the franchise might go. As an actor, McBride is particularly skilled at writing and performing characters with unbound obnoxious behavior--but THR is reporting that the animated series "will be family-friendly and appeal to audiences of all ages."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Even super spies like James Bond have to adapt to modern times, but that doesn't mean future 007 films will head directly to streaming--despite the recent acquisition of Bond studio MGM by Amazon. On the contrary, series producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson say they're "committed" to keeping Bond on the big screen, according to Variety.Amazon this week announced its purchase of MGM for $8.45 billion, following rumors about the acquisition. Naturally, that led to speculation that future movies in MGM's most valuable franchise might be leveraged to bolster Amazon Prime's streaming video offerings, much how Warner Bros. has sacrificed several blockbusters at the altar of HBO Max thanks to the pandemic. But while Bond movies will no doubt stream on Amazon Prime in the future, it seems theatrical releases will also remain in the picture."We are committed to continuing to make James Bond films for the worldwide theatrical audience," reads the statement from Wilson and Broccoli (who is the daughter of famed James Bond producer Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli). The duo run Eon Productions, which has been responsible for all but a handful of Bond movies starting with 1962's Dr. No.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Evil Dead franchise will never die, at least not as long as Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have anything to say about it. The duo is reuniting to visit the series once more with Evil Dead Rise, a movie sequel set to debut on HBO Max, rather than in theaters. New Line Cinema is the studio behind the film. The news comes from Variety, which reports Rami and Campbell will executive produce the film, alongside Robert Tapert, who worked with them on the film trilogy and the TV series that followed, Ash vs. Evil Dead. Unlike the movies and the show, though, Campbell will not reprise his role as Ash in this new film. Additionally, Raimi will not be directing the next chapter of the story. Instead, Lee Cronin (50 States of Fright) will write and direct."I'm thrilled to bring Evil Dead back to its original home at New Line 40 years after the release of the first film," Raimi said. "The company's history as pioneers of horror speaks for itself. I'm equally excited to be working with Lee Cronin, whose gifts as a storyteller make him the ideal filmmaker to continue the enduring legacy of the franchise."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
