If you played one of the older Battlefield games, chances are that you came across one of the handful of videos of a player jumping out of a fighter jet, blowing up an enemy plane with a rocket launcher, and then getting back into his original jet. This act, that's been dubbed a RendeZook (for "rendezvous" and "bazooka") has become one of the most well-known in Battlefield. In the announcement trailer for Battlefield 2042, developer DICE paid homage to it--and the creator of one of the original videos was extremely excited. You can see the reference clip from the Battlefield 2042 trailer at around the 3:00 minute mark. User Schemov, who is still heavily involved in the Battlefield community, streamed out his response to the announcement trailer, not knowing ahead of time that it would incorporate a reference to the RendeZook. His reaction when seeing the clip is priceless, and you can watch it in the embed below. This feat of quick-thinking and dexterity in Battlefield 3 became so well-known among players that it became a meme of sorts. As enshrined in Urban Dictionary, "rendezook" has become slang for pulling off a similar accomplishment in any game.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, the expansion/overhaul for the MMO, is now available for free on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new version will coexist with the base version, and while characters can be shared across both versions, each game will have its own individual progress.New Genesis gives Phantasy Star Online 2 a graphical overhaul, in addition to introducing new environments and story content. Because New Genesis exists side-by-side with the base game, it exists as an update to the original game and not a standalone title. The Xbox version of the game now sits at about 80 GB, containing both versions of the MMO.Phantasy Star Online 2 originally released in Japan in 2012, only making its way to the West in 2020 with an Xbox One and PC release. While the MMO is very popular, its age was visible, so the graphical overhaul came as welcome news. However, Sega didn't didn't want to undo everything players had done in the original version, which is why the two versions coexist.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The arrival of the X-Men to the MCU has been a hot topic for many fans since Disney bought Fox Studios, acquiring the rights to the mutant characters after years of division between the two superhero franchises. And, while Marvel has confirmed that the X-Men are indeed on the live-action docket, plans and details have been kept strictly under wraps. The currently running Marvel Comics event, the Hellfire Gala, which is running as a back-up story in 12 issues of various X-Men comics for the months of June and July, alludes to a MCU and mutant eventual crossover. One of the notable features of the Hellfire Gala story, outside of the fact that it is set to relaunch the X-Men comics and introduce a new X-Men team to publication, is the fact that it features real life celebrities drawn into the crowd scenes. Mostly, these celebrities don't have any featured dialogue or scenes--people like George R.R. Martin, Conan O'Brien, and rapper Method Man can be seen dancing or chatting it up in the background, just as fun Easter Eggs for readers. Among these cameos, however, came a more notable one--MCU boss Kevin Feige was drawn into the Hellfire Gala portion of X-Men #21, released this week, and he actually gets some dialogue balloons of his own.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Screenwriting and directing duo Peter and Bobby Farrelly are reportedly actively developing a sequel to their 1996 classic screwball sports comedy, Kingpin. According to Collider, there's no script and there's no confirmed cast, but it's a start. For those who missed it, the movie follows a star bowler (Woody Harrelson) whose career was prematurely cut short but hopes to ride a new prodigy (Randy Quaid) to success and riches. There are screwball comedies and then there are screwball comedies--Kingpin stood out at the time for its absurd goofiness, fondness for vulgarity, and Bill Murray sporting a gravity-defying haircut.Quaid, Harrelson, and Murray were all huge stars at the time who have all gone on to shine even brighter in the years since--so it's anyone's guess whether any of them might return or if a Kingpin sequel would function better to pass a torch generationally to a new set of kooky bowlers. The Farrelly Brothers immediately followed Kingpin with 1998's There's Something About Mary, and Peter Farrelly most recently directed and co-wrote 2018's Green Book. Kingpin was the pair's next effort after 1994's Dumb and Dumber.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Knockout City, the arcade-style competitive dodgeball game, has received an update that improves the quality of matchmaking. The update is aimed at reducing ping times for players who have been experiencing high-ping matches. In a post on the Knockout City subreddit, a member of the development team at Velan Studios gave a breakdown of the changes being implemented. Street Play, the non-ranked playlist, is only getting a small change, with the amount of matchmaking time needed to expand the acceptable ping range being increased. The developer said this change would keep matchmaking time still relatively low while increasing the quality of matches.Update: These changes are now live, and servers are back up and ready for all brawlers! https://t.co/h0wTijlwhq — Knockout City (@knockoutcity) June 9, 2021League Play, the game's ranked mode, is getting a more elaborate update. League Play searches for matches based on three factors: skill level, ping, and matchmaking time. Prior to the update, the game would expand the acceptable ping range after 60 seconds and would only match with players in the exact same division and tier as you. The update raises the amount of time needed to expand the ping range to eight minutes but allows for players within one tier range--higher and lower--to be matched with you. The developer said that this change may increase matchmaking time slightly but will reduce the chances of a high-ping match significantly.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

This week saw the premiere of a brand-new MCU TV show on Disney+ in an all new timeslot. Loki will be released weekly on Wednesdays, rather than Fridays like its precursors WandaVision and Falcon and The Winter Soldier--but all this change really means for most fans is their theorizing and speculating will now have to be done mid-week rather than over the weekend. And Episode 1, "Glorious Purpose," left plenty to start theorizing about--including the introduction of a brand-new (to the MCU, at least) bureaucratic body that is more powerful than even the Infinity Stones. The premiere picked up where you'd expect, with Loki's surreptitious escape from the Avengers back in 2012, thanks to the Tesseract. This event was shown in Endgame, leading fans to speculate that Loki, the show, would actually follow Loki's adventures using the Tesseract, which contained the Space Stone, as he hopped around the universe causing chaos. It turns out that isn't the case--Loki's teleportation with the Tesseract from Avengers Tower sent him to Mongolia, where he was able to give about a minute's worth of villainous monologue to the locals before he was interrupted and apprehended by the Time Variance Authority (TVA).Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Tom Hiddleston's Loki is every Marvel fan's favorite god of mischief, and the character has finally returned thanks to the premiere of his new Disney+ series, Loki. The show sees Thor's brother leaping through time to stop "nexus events" and alternate realities, making it feel like anything is possible. But as Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige revealed during a recent press conference, Loki's future was once even more uncertain than it is now. When the majority of big screen MCU superheroes died at the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War, it was generally assumed that most of them would return--with the exceptions of Vision and Loki, whose deaths were separate from the calamitous "snap." The MCU shows on Disney+ have proved otherwise, but according to Feige, bringing Loki back for his own show wasn't always the plan."I think we did not know [how Loki would return] when we shot Infinity War," Feige said. "But I think we did know it when we shot Endgame, is my recollection of it."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Starfield feels like one of those elusive games that's often talked about despite its low profile, and it's hard to believe if it's actually coming out in the near future. We've heard few details about this new IP from developer Bethesda Game Studios (best known for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls), seen a teaser back at E3 2018, and heard Todd Howard speak broadly about it on occasion, but we're anticipating plenty more at this year's E3.Although it's easy to think that we do the same song and dance at every major event where Bethesda has a notable presence, all signs are pointing to a relatively substantial showing for Starfield. We've compiled all of the current details so far in our Starfield: Everything We Know feature, but here, we'll sum that up and get into a bit of speculation and what we wish to see from this seemingly massive sci-fi RPG at E3 2021.What We Know So FarWe know Starfield won't deviate too far from the developer's wheelhouse. Todd Howard has stated in the past that this game very much has the DNA of a Bethesda game, and it's understood to be an open-world single-player RPG, which is the team's bread and butter. Studio director Ashley Cheng also said that the team behind Starfield are veterans of creating open-world RPGs. Yet, that's a fairly basic canvas for Starfield's larger picture.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The actors of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know enough to give lectures on their characters, but they're not always privy to how projects will go down. When Anthony Mackie found out that Sam Wilson--also known as the Falcon and the new Captain America--was headed for Disney+, he was "mortified," the actor said in a new interview with Variety."I was very afraid and very disappointed when I heard it was going to be a TV show because I didn't think we could take the scope of what we had just done in all these movies and then put it on TV and it would work," Mackie said, comparing the shift to putting the characters out to pasture. "I didn't want to be the first failed entity of Marvel."For a long time, the classic Batman television show and movie from the late 1960s were the gold standard for what superheroes on TV would look like. Batman comics were campy back then, and the show was campy in equal measure. That was, however, over half a century ago, and it's unclear why that was his first reference point when Marvel and DC alike have upped their game with shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, HBO's Watchmen, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow in recent years.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Editor's note: In June 2021, developer Square Enix released an upgraded version of Final Fantasy VII Remake for PlayStation 5, which included improved visuals and technical performance, as well as some new features, including a photo mode. Our impressions on how the improvements impact Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5 are written by Phil Hornshaw. The original review of Final Fantasy VII Remake was first published in April 2020 and is written by Tamoor Hussain. In the opening of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud Strife, a mercenary and former member of an elite private military group called SOLDIER, takes on a job with an eco-terrorist cell named Avalanche. Their mission is to blow up a reactor that siphons Mako, the lifeblood of the planet, and uses it to power the sprawling industrial metropolis Midgar. The group infiltrates, braves resistance from Shinra Electric Company's forces, and sets off an explosion that renders the reactor inoperable. In the 1997 original, what followed was a hop, skip, and jump through a few sections of the city back to Sector 7, and the safety of Avalanche's hideout. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, having carried out the mission, you're asked to walk the streets in the aftermath and witness the harrowing consequences of your actions. The sector lies in ruin, fires rage, buildings are crumbling, and the heartbreaking human cost is laid bare.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
