A Chinese court has cancelled an online auction selling a criminal's possessions after the bidding price skyrocketed out of control, possibly in part due to a rare Yu-Gi-Oh card, via IGN. As reported by South China Morning Post, A Chinese court made an online auction selling the frozen assets of a man convicted of embezzlement, but the auction was cancelled after it reached a bid price of 87 million yuan, which is about $13.4 million USD.It is believed that the skyrocketing bids were caused by the Blue-Eyes White Dragon Yu-Gi-Oh card, believed to be one of 500 limited-edition cards printed in 2019. Collector's value the card between $31,000 and $46,000 if it is indeed real, although the card in question has not been certified. The card reached the $13.4 million USD mark within 30 minutes, prompting organizers to cancel the auction, as it was significantly past the card's market value and some type of foul play was suspected."This auction has been suspended," a statement from the Alibaba judicial auction online platform said. "The price is seriously inconsistent with the actual bidding price, and malicious bidding behaviour is suspected."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Microsoft and Xbox boss Phil Spencer are confident that Halo Infinite will be launching Holiday 2021 and that the release window is down to "a few weeks." As shared on ResetEra, In the latest episode of Dropped Frames, Spencer confirmed that both 343 Industries and Microsoft are confident about Halo Infinite releasing Holiday 2021 like it previously announced.Spencer went on to say that he is confident that the release window will be hit and that they know the three-to-four-week period when the game will release, but they just need to look at when some "other game timing" is going to happen. He said they are looking to provide more clarity as to when Halo Infinite will launch during the summer. Spencer says instead of committing to a date and having to move it by a week later, they are willing to just wait until they know for sure.Based on Spencer's comments it seems as though Microsoft is trying to avoid having the Halo Infinite release date overlap with any other big holiday titles releasing in that window. While Microsoft didn't reveal an exact date Halo Infinite during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, it did give the first look at Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode in action.Info from Gamespot.com

While NBC's American Ninja Warrior has become a part of US culture, its roots are based in Japanese game shows, as it is an adaptation of the competition series Sasuke, which formerly aired on the G4 network. Its journey from a syndicated Japanese show on a video gaming network to capturing the attention and minds of Americans on broadcast network TV isn't a simple one though.American Ninja Warrior producer Arthur Smith of A. Smith & Co. has spent much of his time working on unscripted and competition programming in the United States. His first taste of Japanese game shows came from his time working on ABC's I Survived A Japanese Game Show. The reality game show took unsuspecting Americans and sent them to Japan to compete in various games akin to what game shows air in Japan.I Survived A Japanese Game Show (Photo credit: A. Smith & Co. Productions)"It was funny because in the first season the competitors had no idea where they were going," Smith explained to GameSpot. "We pick them up at the airport, and then just went around to the other side of the airport, and then say, 'Oh, now we're going to Japan.' It was a really funny moment, and they were all game."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Scarlett Johansson will produce and star in Disney's new Tower of Terror movie, according to a report by Collider. Other names attached to the project include writer Josh Cooley--Toy Story 4 director and Inside Out screenwriter--and Jonathan Lia, who will produce alongside Johansson's production company These Pictures. No director has been selected yet, though according to Collider's sources and to no one's surprise, Disney is hoping for a big name. The attraction includes a fictional Hollywood Tower Hotel, and visitors get to take a trip to the fictional fifth dimension. Previous film adaptations inspired by the Tower of Terror ride include the 1997 film of the same title directed by D.J. MacHale. Episode 2 of Loki ended on a bombshell reveal--the Loki variant that the TVA had been chasing through time and space was, in fact, a woman. This prompted many fans to speculate on the introduction of a popular comics version of the character, known as Lady Loki. However, despite the clear parallels this new Loki had to Lady Loki, some parts of the puzzle seemed to be missing. Her design was specifically very different for one, and for another, she immediately seemed to rail against the comparison to Loki himself when they met.Of course, we didn't get much time to examine the possibilities as Episode 2 drew to a close in truly chaotic fashion. But here, in Episode 3, we get to spend some quality time with this new character--and learn that she might not be a version of Lady Loki after all.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The biggest draw of A Pirate's Life, the new expansion content for Sea of Thieves, might be Captain Jack Sparrow and the many other Pirates of the Caribbean characters now a part of the live game's world. But while it's nice to delve into the crossover content to see nods to both Disney's films and its theme park attractions, the story and Easter eggs aren't the reason you should check out A Pirate's Life. What the new expansion really excels at is giving new pirates and lone scallawags a new, low-stakes way to engage with Sea of Thieves without the threat of getting riddled with enemy cannonballs and losing hours of progress.A Pirate's Life launched as a free expansion to Sea of Thieves this week, and while it makes a few changes to the game at large, it mostly consists of five new "Tall Tales" that specifically concern Pirates of the Caribbean mainstays Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, Captain Barbosa, and others. These stories take you on a journey to uncover what's brought Captain Jack to the Sea of Thieves, sending you to some new locations that haven't been part of the game before. These aren't the only Tall Tales in the game--there are quite a few others that take you on lengthy voyages all over Sea of Thieves--but the story chapters in A Pirate's Life (or at least the first three, as that's all I've completed so far) are a bit of a different speed than the rest of the game. They represent a pretty solid on-ramp into Rare's excellent swashbuckling adventure game if you've never played it. They're also fun to take on alone, filling a gap in Sea of Thieves content that's been there throughout the game's life.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With monitors now starting to release with HDMI 2.1 support, you might be tempted to investigate options for your new Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft is taking a lot of the guesswork out of the equation with its new "Designed for Xbox" program, bestowing a certification on displays that will play best with its new range of gaming consoles. All of these new displays are coming later this year but support all the important features of HDMI 2.1, including 4K, 120Hz, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), low-latency modes, and varying degrees of HDR. Philips Momentum 559M1RYV 55” Monitor $1,600 | Launching this summer The first is a display from Phillips that Microsoft helped work on. The Philips Momentum 559M1RYV is a 55-inch display, making it more like a TV than a monitor for your office desk. What the size offers is a stunning VA panel with a 4K resolution, as well as VESA DisplayHDR1000 (one of the highest certifications for HDR on monitors.) It supports all the good stuff from HDMI 2.1, including AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro and a dedicated Xbox picture mode that tunes color, latency, and more. Even better is the included soundbar that sits at the bottom, provided by audio professionals Bowers & Wilkins. The Philips Momentum 559M1RYV is the most expensive of the three monitors that join the Xbox program today, but also the most feature-rich. It's coming later this summer and will retail for $1,600. See at Phillips ASUS Strix Xbox Edition XG43UQ 43” Gaming Monitor $1,400 | Launching this October The Asus Strix XG43UQ Xbox Edition Gaming Monitor is a mouthful, but it's also a great option if the Phillips is just too big. This 43-inch monitor is still large enough that you should really make sure you have enough space, but it doesn't skimp on any of the top-tier features. With HDMI 2.1 you're still getting 4K, 144Hz, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and HDR (again in the form of VESA DisplayHDR1000.) Like the Phillips there's also a dedicated Xbox picture mode, which sets you up with the best settings for your connected console. You're committing to Asus' Strix aesthetic, but the swap to a white back makes the design pop in a new way. The Asus Strix XG43UQ will launch in October and retail for $1,400. See at Asus Acer Xbox Edition XV282K KV 28” Gaming Monitor $950 | Launches this fall The smallest monitor in the range comes courtesy of Acer and is a much more familiar 28-inch display. The Acer Nitro XV2 does cram a 4K panel into that chassis, with HDMI 2.1 connections for the Xbox Series X|S. That means AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro and a 144Hz refresh rate, but you will have to compromise slightly on HDR (it's limited to VESA DisplayHDR400.)Outside of just being a good choice for console gaming, the Nitro XV2 comes with a built-in KVM switch which will make switching between multiple inputs easily without having to change your inputs (your keyboard and mouse can be connected directly to your monitor.) That does increase the price, but for $950 it's a good option to look out for later this fall. See at Acer If you need a monitor right now, you can capitalize on Amazon Prime Day and pick up one of many deeply discounted gaming monitors over the next few hours. Also check out our guide to the best gaming monitors for both Xbox Series X|S and PS5 that you can purchase today.Info from Gamespot.com

The theme song to The Office is one of the most iconic of all time. However, the workplace comedy almost had an entirely different--and very well-known--theme that would have set a very different tone. During the latest episode of Office Ladies, series stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey set the record straight on the iconic show's opening tune.As it turns out, the series originally was going to use an established song to open each episode--and there were three options. "[Creator Greg Daniels] whittled it down to three choices and he created title sequences to all three songs and he gave DVDs out to the whole cast," Fischer remembered. "And we got to vote on the songs."Those songs were "Better Things" by the Kinks, "Float On" by Modest Mouse, and "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO. Kinsey admitted she voted for Modest Mouse, while Fischer was a fan of the ELO opening credits. Ultimately, "Mr. Blue Sky" won the vote, and when the cast gathered to watch the pilot episode together, that's what opened the show. You can see those opening credits below.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There are numerous fantastic monitor deals right now during the second day of Amazon Prime Day, but if you're looking specifically for one of the biggest displays on offer you don't need to look much further than this deal on one of Samsung's ultrawides. The Samsung 49CRG90 is down to $900 today, a savings of $600 on one of the best ultrawides on the market still. It is an Amazon Prime exclusive deal, so you'll be a subscription to take advantage. Samsung 49" CRG9 Ultrawide Curved Gaming Monitor $900 (was $1,500) The Samsung 49RG9 is a colossal monitor, acting as two 1440p monitors in width with a slight curve to keep it within your peripheral vision. That is a total resolution of 5120x1440, which is enough to retain crispness across the 49-inch chassis. It's not just about the size either. The CRG90 improves on its predecessor in numerous ways, with the inclusion of a panel that supports VESA DisplayHDR1000 and a 120Hz refresh rate. Combined with the improved resolution, you're getting a display experience that is only bested by Samsung's latest Odyssey G9, but for a fraction of the cost. You will need to make sure that your desk is wide enough for the 49CRG9, which measures over 47-inches wide (thanks to the curve) and weighs 33 pounds. But if you have the space and a reasonably powerful PC to drive it, this could be a transformative investment for your gaming. See at Amazon If this is just too big, or too expensive, for you, check out a range of other great Amazon Prime monitor deals before the big event ends later today.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
