Microsoft Flight Simulator, the technologically staggering love letter to aviation, is now finally out on Xbox Series X|S, as well as Xbox Game Pass. While the game was greeted with an enthusiastic critical response when it was first released for PC late last year, the Xbox Series X|S versions of the game have managed to deliver the fidelity and performance you expect with only a few compromises. In our updated Microsoft Flight Simulator review, critic Alessandro Barbosa called the game visually breathtaking, though he criticized the game's clunky user interface. He also praised the game's updated tutorials, which are significantly improved from the PC original, and called Microsoft Flight Simulator the first game to truly push the Xbox Series X. Other critics agreed with our assessment, giving the game the highest Metascore for an Xbox Series X|S released in 2021 so far."Controlling flight on a controller is, thankfully, a lot better, with a decent balance of options mapped as default to give you a great sense of control in the air while not stripping away the enthusiast fundamentals of the series," he wrote. "Of course, all of this can be customized, letting you tune your experience however you see fit. More dedicated players will likely want to invest in a full HOTAS setup for the most authentic experience, but many are sadly still incompatible with the Xbox Series X."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Niantic is currently working to overturn a number of false bans given out to Pokemon Go players. As reported by Eurogamer, the Pokemon Go developer has acknowledged that its anti-cheat system has falsely flagged players for using third-party software and banned them. We’re working on reverting strikes for some Trainers who incorrectly received punishments on their accounts. This will be done for Trainers automatically, whether or not they have contacted us. We apologize for the error. — Niantic Support (@NianticHelp) July 27, 2021Niantic did not say if affected players would receive any compensation for being incorrectly locked out of their accounts nor did it give a timeframe for restoring the accounts. Some Pokemon Go players took to the SilphRoad subreddit to post about the false bans, but the comments made it clear that players did not expect Niantic customer support to respond or reverse the ban prior to the developer's official announcement. This isn't the first time Niantic's anti-cheat system has given out false bans to players. The system is in place to attempt to prevent people from spoofing their phones and obtaining rare Pokemon from places across the world without actually traveling there. Players who receive a ban will get a short seven-day soft-ban warning, followed by a 30-day ban, and ultimately getting their account locked on the third violation.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Dark Souls Remastered will no longer be 50% off for owners of the original PC version of the game starting at the end of September. The original version of the game, known as the Prepare to Die edition, was the only way to play Dark Souls for many years, but that changed with the release of Dark Souls Remastered in 2018.The Prepare to Die edition was widely considered to be an inferior port of the game, requiring a mod called the DSfix module to even change the resolution of the game correctly, as well as to play it in 60fps. The remastered version of the game has been 50% off for owners of the original for the past two years. Starting on September 30, Dark Souls Remastered will cost the full price of $40 for everyone. As suggested by several Reddit users, the remastered version of the game rarely, if ever, goes on sale due to this ongoing 50% off promotion, which causes "discount stacking" for owners. Now that the promotion is ending, we should likely expect Dark Souls Remastered to go on sale more often, though it's not guaranteed.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A Bloodborne modder has restored one of the game's most famous mysteries: a locked door in Cathedral Ward that is marked "closed" in the final game. Bloodborne hackers have known for a long time that this door was intended to link the Cleric Beast boss area to the Cathedral Ward area just before Vicar Amelia, but it was cut from the final game due to technical issues. Now, a Bloodborne modder who goes by Garden of Eyes has restored the door to working condition. While it might seem like a small change, it actually required a lot of work on the modder's part."I used some of the leftover assets to restore the shortcut door in the retail version of the game, which required modifying collisions, map files, and scripts to ensure that the regions loaded properly," the modder told Eurogamer. "I also considered what would happen if the Cleric Beast had not yet been slain, so I included a fog wall to prevent game-breaking problems."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden said that the rising costs of game development are leading to consolidation and a lack of diversity. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Layden said that the increased costs of game development are not sustainable, especially since the number of people who own consoles today is roughly the same as in the late 1990s--about 240 to 260 million. Layden gave the interview after joining the advisory board for Streamline Media Group, where he will help provide strategy for both games and business. He said instead of increasing the audience size, the industry has just gotten people to spend more money on games. Layden said that smaller studios will soon get priced out of making games. This isn't the first time Layden has said that the cost of game development is ballooning in an unsustainable way."With each console generation, the cost of games goes up 2x. So PS4 games were $100m to $150m, so it stands to reason that PS5 games -- when they hit their stride -- will be in excess of $200m," Layden told GamesIndustry.biz. "It's going to be very difficult for more than a handful of large players to compete in that space."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

If you're running out of room on your Xbox Series X|S--perhaps as you attempt to install the 100 GB+ required for the just-released Microsoft Flight Simulator--there's a useful tip you should be aware of. As shared on Reddit, it's possible that external storage drive users have a game installed more than once, costing you valuable space.User tamdelay (via GamesRadar) posted on the Xbox Series X subreddit that there's a "small to medium risk" a game may accidentally install on both the console's SSD and an external drive. We've seen this issue pop up in our own testing as well, where games were cloned multiple times over. There are three probable causes for this duplication. The first is upgrading an Xbox One game to Xbox Series X, while another is restarting a download after it fails and changing the installation's hard drive location. Users could also just forget they have a game and redownload it on a separate drive.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In perhaps the most bizarre twist to come from M. Night Shyamalan, Fortnite players can now try to escape from the setting of the horror director's latest movie, Old.While it's not clear what mechanics will be in play on the map (like an ever-aging Jonesy), players will have to escape the idyllic beach. According to a post from Epic on the custom map, players will have to find resources, craft tools, and beat the clock to escape. The map can either be played solo or with six other players. The Old-inspired map in Fortnite can only be played in the game's Creative mode. To access it, simply start the game up and select the "Creative" option in the game selection menu. After that, press the big "Play" button and select "Island Code." The World of Warcraft development team has released a statement addressing the issues put forth by California's discrimination lawsuit against Activision Blizzard. The message was shared on the MMO's official Twitter account and on the game's official website, signed by "The World of Warcraft team."The message recognizes the pain of the women who were allegedly harassed and discriminated against and says that the studio will take time and action for World of Warcraft to get to a better place. The message also states that "we also want to take immediate action in Azeroth to remove references that are not appropriate for our world."A message from the #Warcraft team. pic.twitter.com/3gWCz1gu8T — World of Warcraft (@Warcraft) July 27, 2021While it is not directly stated what references are being removed from both World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft Classic it seems likely that the team will be removing references to former director Alex Afrasiabi, who was named in the lawsuit. Afrasiabi--who quietly left the company in summer 2020--allegedly would frequently hit on women at the company, attempt to kiss them, and throw his arms around their necks.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Developer Thunder Lotus and iam8bit are scheduled to release physical editions of Spiritfarer for PS4 and Switch on August 3. Ahead of the release of the physical editions, I sat down with creative director Nicolas Guérin to discuss how folks at Thunder Lotus embraced vulnerability to create a death-positive game that deals with themes of grief, love, loss, and self-care.In our conversation, Guérin shares how the stories told in Spiritfarer were inspired by the team's own experiences with loss. He also talks about early concepts for the game--like how Spiritfarer originally saw Stella conducting a train as opposed to steering a boat and how the cyclical gameplay loop was once tied to the changing of the seasons--and explains why these ideas were ultimately cut. There's a moment we rag on The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and bond over our love for If Found too.As a final note before jumping into the interview, the last question of our conversation goes into spoilers for Spiritfarer. If you still haven't beaten Spiritfarer (which you should--Spiritfarer was one of GameSpot's Best Games Of 2020), don't keep scrolling when you get to the part of the interview where Guérin asks me whether I've beaten the game and I tell him I did. We discussed the ending of the game after that. There is another spoiler warning further down in the text right before we go into spoilers, but I wanted to give y'all a heads up upfront.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Welcome to the Reapers' Game, Players! Neo: The World Ends With You is out now, and we're here to give you some advice to help get your adventure off on the right foot. Whether you're a complete newcomer to the Shibuya Underground or an older fan who may have forgotten a thing or two with time, our starter guide should help you keep in step with the beat of Neo: TWEWY's unique gameplay.Keep Pushing ButtonsNeo: TWEWY has an action-based battle system, but what's unique is that you can control all of the characters at once by pressing their assigned attack buttons. The best way to fight is by using lots of button presses in tandem to lock down enemies and score combos. For example, with a PS4 controller, if you have a mash attack set to square, a charge attack set to L1, and a hold attack set to R2, you can be pressing all of those buttons at the same time: hold R2 to launch a sustained attack to keep an enemy stunned while charging on L1 and rapid-pressing square, then release L1 to finish off your team attack with a charged strike once the other attacks run their course. After you charge your Groove meter and execute a special attack, don't let up on the normal button-press strikes while the big attack is going down! You can still get in additional hits while the special is playing out. Use this opportunity to maximize damage and even get some of your Groove back!Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
