The Game Developers Choice Awards will honor Newgrounds creator Tom Fulp and industry veteran Laralyn McWilliams on July 21 as part of this year's all-virtual GDC.Fulp will receive the Pioneer Award for his creation and continued support of the website Newgrounds and Newgrounds Portal, which allows users to self-publish games, art, and animations to the internet for the whole world to enjoy. In the early 2000s this meant an explosion of Flash games and animations that heavily influenced internet culture as we know it today. Fulp also founded the game studio Behemoth, going on to create games like Alien Hominid (which began life as a Flash game on Newgrounds) and later smash-hits like Castle Crashers.McWilliams will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for her nearly 30-year career in the video game industry, which saw her work as creative director for Sony Online Entertainment's MMO Free Realms and lead designer on the original Full Spectrum Warrior. She currently works at Microsoft as principal creative design director for customer success engineering. Patch 0.12.11 for Escape From Tarkov has launched after days of hints and teasers from developer Battlestate Games. The patch includes a full wipe of player inventories, setting everyone playing the hardcore MMO first-person shooter back to square one. However, a full list of patch notes for update 0.12.11 has not been released yet.It's no secret that a wipe for Escape From Tarkov was coming up. The game has long been due for one, with its last wipe arriving last December. Escape From Tarkov issues player inventory wipes twice a year. Battlestate Games also implemented some in-game changes to prepare players for an inventory wipe, including the deactivation of secure containers, which players use to keep precious equipment and cargo between runs, and hefty discounts at the game's vendors.While players may have lost their gear, Battlestate Games has more than made up for it with new content. The Factory expansion was added to the game with patch 0.12.11, adding a new Scav boss as well as new gameplay mechanics, including weapon malfunctions and deterioration. On July 23, the first season of Masters of the Universe: Revelation will debut on Netflix. The series is one of a number of He-Man-centric projects in the works, with director Kevin Smith serving as showrunner. Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV show reportedly has a gigantic budget, and now one of the actors has shared his thoughts on this and more, including why the secrecy around the project is actually a good thing. Benjamin Walker, who plays an unspecified role on the show, told Collider that a major investment is necessary for a production of this size and scale."There is a lot of talk about the money, but I kind of feel like that's what you need to do it right," he said. The story doesn't change--you'll experience the same haunting narrative, juxtaposed with friendly and colorful visual novel imagery, regardless of where you play--but a bit of the horror in the game's twist is lost on consoles. PUBG's update 12.2 is finally live on PC test servers, and perhaps most notably, it adds an 8x8 map called Taego with a brand-new second-chance system. For players of Call of Duty: Warzone, it might be immediately familiar: It's pretty clearly taking a page from Warzone's Gulag, while adding some additional complexities.Called Comeback BR, PUBG's implementation is actually more like a compact Battle Royale mode inside the main round, rather than a 1v1 showdown like Warzone's Gulag. If you go down before the first Blue Zone, you get transported to the Comeback Arena where you basically just have to stay alive for a certain amount of time. If you succeed, you'll get a chance to return to the match in its third phase with all of your gear.Comeback BR is currently exclusive to the Taego map, as is another helpful feature to give yourself another chance: Self AED, which is a world-loot item that lets you self-revive. The Wheel of Time is a fantasy epic that spans through 14 books, with a rich world of forbidden magic and strange lands, and it will finally be coming to Amazon this year. Amazon revealed the tv show's logo Wednesday afternoon as part of its Wheel of Time Wednesdays.You can see the trailer starts its focus on the scales of a snake, forever spiraling, until we get the title font of The Wheel of Time and a year date for 2021. A "very successful console [maker that] does not have Game Pass" charges indie devs $25,000 USD to get discounts and feature spots on the platform, according to Neon Doctrine co-founder Iain Garner.Garner took to Twitter to air out his frustrations with "Platform X." Garner never identified the console maker but clarified that Game Pass doesn't exist on the manufacturer's platform, ruling out PC and Xbox consoles. Speculation has suggested the platform holder in question is Sony, and a subsequent tweet from Whitehorn Games CEO Matthew White laments the troubles his studio has encountered on this same platform. While not outright using Sony's name, White strongly suggests it's the PlayStation maker being referred to. White also notes that he used to work at "Platform X"; his LinkedIn profile shows him as having worked at PlayStation from August 2016-2017.A Kotaku report, citing two sources, also corroborates that "Platform X" is Sony's PlayStation. Two new Jungle Cruise trailers have been released. The movie is based on the Disney theme park attraction, and it releases on July 30.The trailers each have an introduction from the film's stars, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Except the actors both seem to think they are the main star and have serious trouble remembering the other's names. As for the trailers, each is focused on their characters, Skipper Frank and Dr. Lily Houghton, and deliver a similar mix of comedy and Amazonian action to previous Jungle Cruise promos. In a recent interview, director Quentin Tarantino has made it abundantly clear that he's standing by his 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's depiction of martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. In what has become an ongoing trend, two ex-Blizzard employees have formed a new studio and are looking to make a new RTS title for PC, this time in partnership with Tencent Games.The new studio is called Uncapped Games, and is being led by Blizzard veterans David Kim and Jason Hughes.
