When you think about nuclear energy, those big hourglass-shaped steam towers probably come to mind. But one creative YouTuber has managed to pull off a much smaller-scale, but nonetheless impressive, use of nuclear power: running a knock-off Game Boy for an hour to play Tetris.Ian Charnas, a YouTuber who focuses on DIY creations like syncing wiper blades to music, decided to try and harness the power of nuclear decay to play a video game. You can and should watch his whole video, which is embedded below, but in short he captures the light energy thrown off by the natural decay of tritium (an isotope of hydrogen) using mini solar panels, and then stores that energy in specialized batteries. From there, the batteries are built into a custom board and hooked up to a low-energy handheld game system to play Tetris.Large-scale reactors use controlled chain reactions of uranium fission to generate heat and turn a turbine to create electricity. This is, more or less, the same phenomenon that powers nuclear weapons and is highly regulated by international atomic energy agencies. However, many other elements also undergo nuclear decay at much smaller (and safer) levels, including tritium, and all nuclear processes release energy as both light and heat. While big reactors capture the heat, Charnas captures the light using photovoltaic cells. According to a report from Bloomberg, Netflix is looking to get into video games, though plenty of questions remain and nothing is locked down and certain at this stage. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is one of the most divisive entries in Nintendo's acclaimed series. As the first full-fledged Zelda game designed for the Wii, the title made extensive use of the Wii Remote, eschewing the series' traditional control scheme for controversial motion controls. A decade later, Nintendo has remastered Skyward Sword for the Switch, and while many of the game's original faults remain intact, a variety of welcome tweaks make it easier to appreciate now.As with the Wii U remasters of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Nintendo has made numerous quality-of-life improvements to Skyward Sword. These tweaks are largely minor but have an appreciable effect on the game's playability. Some previously mandatory tutorials are now optional, for instance, and you can speed up dialogue and skip cutscenes, making the game's languid opening moments much breezier.More substantial are the adjustments to Fi, the spirit who dwells within your sword. Like Navi and Midna in previous Zelda games, Fi serves as your companion for most of the adventure in Skyward Sword, frequently interjecting to relay story information and other hints. Her constant interruptions made her one of the most grating aspects of the original game, especially as the "insights" she offered were often glaringly obvious. More than four years after it was originally released on PC, Nier: Automata's Steam version is finally getting a new update this week that aims to fix its core problems. These issues have previously required a user-made mod to bring the game up to par with the console versions, but that will, hopefully, no longer be the case. An update will address most of these on July 15.In a post on the game's official Steam page on July 13, the development team listed the changes coming in the update, which you can read in full at the end of this article. They include new anti-aliasing, borderless video settings, HDR support, 4K textures for the UI, 60fps cutscenes, global illumination, ambient occlusion, and a stabilized frame rate.The PC version wasn't completely broken before, but frame rate and video issues made it a much less enjoyable game compared to the one on PS4 and Xbox One. Nickelodeon is making a Super Smash Bros.-style fighting game where you can finally settle the age-old question: Who would win a fight... Nigel Thornberry or SpongeBob?As announced by IGN, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is set for release this fall on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as PS4 and Xbox One. Ted Lasso Season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ on July 23. The new season of the acclaimed sports comedy stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, and Juno Temple.Season 1 was one of 2020's biggest word-of-mouth hits. Nominations are now in the 73rd annual Emmy awards, which are set to air live on September 19 at 8 PM ET on CBS and Paramount Plus. The Neighborhood star Cedric the Entertainer will host the ceremony, which will feature a limited audience of nominees and their guests.Arguably the most eyebrow-raising category is the comedy nominations, which somehow includes The Flight Attendant and Netflix's Cobra Kai--shows whose fans likely don't remember laughing much while watching in the last year. (Conan also got a nod as a Variety Talk Series after its recent late-night exit.) Meanwhile, it's cool to see The Mandalorian and Prime Video's The Boys get acknowledged as a drama in contention, though it's up against some heavy hitters including The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale.Like many of the major award shows in entertainment after the pandemic, the nominees reflect a thinning herd of what actually wound up coming out--everything delayed into oblivion or later this year didn't make the cut. For example, Variety crunched the numbers and tabulated that the total number of shows submitted took a sizable drop from the previous year: The drama series race dropped from 197 to 133 titles, the comedy series field plunged from 111 to 68 contenders, and the limited series/anthology category slipped from 41 to 37 entries. Master Chief is back to sporting a more classic look in Halo Infinite, and while the design of his armor is inspired by the Bungie era of Halo, all the nicks, dents, scratches, and scorch marks are brand new.As highlighted in the new 117th Canon Fodder blog post on Halo Waypoint honoring Spartan 117 himself, fans can now get an up-close, high-res look at the Master Chief's Halo Infinite armor--the Mjolnir Mk.VI[Gen3]. It's certainly changed a lot from this same time last year. Scuffed paint, plasma burns, and a layer of dust and dirt coat the Chief's new suit, seeming to imply that the character has seen plenty of fighting between the events of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite. Master Chief's armor was nearly as pristine as could be in the game's first gameplay trailer, showing no wear and tear of any kind, and looked like it had come fresh off the assembly line. After a 24-hour countdown on its official Twitch channel, developer Relic Entertainment has unveiled Company of Heroes 3 through an IGN livestream reveal. The new entry in the long-running WWII real-time strategy franchise will launch on PC sometime in late 2022.Relic Entertainment dropped a gameplay trailer showcasing the new combat mechanics, including a feature that lets players pause the action in single-player called Tactical Pause. A little like Final Fantasy's Active Time Battle system, Company of Heroes 3's Tactical Pause freezes the game so players can make precise battle decisions and movements. But it's only available in single-player. There are other additions as well, which are briefly outlined in the gameplay trailer below.Players interested in checking out Company of Heroes 3 before launch can sign up for a free pre-alpha preview on PC by joining the co-development program, where Relic Entertainment will share design documents and give access to in-development elements like the Tactical Pause feature. Especially if you're looking for something that sparkles like no other.The new Vertagear PL4500 retails for $600 and has been designed in collaboration with jewelry-maker Swarovski, adorning the chair with pockets of crystals to really show off. The design isn't as flashy as you might expect--the crystals are exclusive to diamond shapes across the front of the chair as well as in the company's logo at the top and on the back. From afar it seems somewhat difficult to see, especially if you aren't shining a light directly onto the chair, but it's the sort of luxury you'll know is there when you're sitting in it.
