Director Kevin Smith is set to start production on Clerks 3 in August, according to a tweet by the man himself, which also shares that entertainment company Lionsgate has acquired worldwide rights to the film. This means he's also been able to hold true to his plans he announced in January to film the highly-awaited sequel this year.Also, back in January, Smith took to Facebook to share a fraction of the script's first page--which only set the scene for the movie's tone, but not much else. Via a release, Deadline now has a synopsis, which is: "Following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay, and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all." Smith has indicated this will be a "personal story… drawing directly on the heart attack that nearly killed me (three years ago)." With rumors swirling of a new multiplayer game coming from Ubisoft, codenamed "Battlecat" in early leaks, we finally have the first details of Ubisoft's next free-to-play multiplayer shooter--Tom Clancy's XDefiant. Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, XDefiant is a 6v6 team-focused shooter that's more in the vein of Overwatch and Call of Duty than the tactical cover-based shootouts from recent Tom Clancy games. While Ubisoft's slate of games based on that franchise has stuck mostly close to military-realism and gritty storylines, XDefiant is described by Ubisoft as a fast-paced, "punk rock" take on a Tom Clancy game.Ubisoft has released an announcement video that provides a general overview of Tom Clancy's XDefiant, which leans heavily into quick, over-the-top skirmishes with other players. In an unusual twist for a Tom Clancy game, it's also something of a mash-up of Ubisoft's slate of military action games, incorporating gadgets and other elements from franchises like Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon. This shooter will be a new live-service game for Ubisoft, which will see updates and new content over time. The developers have also hinted that XDefiant could go "beyond" the Tom Clancy universe, perhaps even adding factions from other Ubisoft franchises.The announcement video showcased the different available factions in their element, and they definitely use some familiar tricks and tools that players have seen from other titles. To be clear, you're not playing as established characters from previous Tom Clancy games, but rather fresh operatives who will move up the ranks. With the four playable factions--focusing on the Echelon, Cleaners, Outcasts, and Wolves--you'll be able to pick a side and expand your character's abilities and arsenal, which also include team-specific ultimates to let loose during fights. The operatives of the Echelon faction uses the same tactics and skills that the super-spy Sam Fisher had in the Splinter Cell series. The Cleaners and Outcasts also carry over many of the familiar gadgets and skills they used as antagonists in The Division. Though rumored to have been destroyed, an eBay seller has reportedly uncovered an incredibly rare Nintendo eReader card from E3 2002 and threw it up for auction, where it's currently bidding for thousands of dollars.The card in question is a first-place Kirby eReader card from Nintendo's E3 2002 show floor. At the time, attendees were given a promo pack containing these potentially prize-winning cards emblazoned with iconic Nintendo characters. They came in three variants--first, second, and third place--with only 10 first-place cards being printed. We don't know a ton about IO Interactive's James Bond game Project 007, but a new job listing says that it might be a third-person action game. The job listing calls for an AI programmer to join the project, and one of the bullet points states that "experience working with 3rd person action games" is desirable.The listing also says a few things that we already know about the game: that it will be a wholly original Bond story rather than based on any preexisting material, and that it will be some sort of origin story that will explore how Bond earned his 00 status in the first place.We first heard about Project 007 in late 2020 after IO posted a short teaser on social media. Since then, we've mostly heard about the game through behind-the-scenes talk, such as when IO announced that it was opening a new studio in Barcelona to assist with the project back in April. Unnamed sources have reportedly revealed to Deadline that Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) is far along on talks to direct the long-gestating and still upcoming Blade movie from Marvel. Although Marvel didn't provide an official comment, Deadline is indicating that the decision comes after months of meetings stretching from March to June--which themselves were a continuation of meetings taking place last fall.Plans for a new version of the Blade character, originally played by Wesley Snipes in the early 2000s, were first announced in 2019 during Comic-Con. Snipes, for the record, is welcoming this new incarnation--and has plans for his own "Blade-killer" movie, so it looks like we're all due for lots of awesome vampire-killing movies ahead. Marvel's Blade is still expected to start production in July 2022.Aside from the fact that the film will still happen, Marvel has been tight-fisted on details. Some 53% of US households now own a video game console and 30% percent plan to purchase one sometime in the next 12 months, according to a new report from CES organizer the Consumer Technology Association.The report examines a variety of consumer technology trends over the course of a year. This year, the CTA's findings look into stay-at-home tech, health and wellness trends, and the preference of TVs over smartphones. Outside of a handful of official in-person gatherings around the globe, 2021 marked the second year running that Pokemon Go Fest--the Pokemon mobile game's biggest annual event--was largely held virtually. Although developer Niantic has traditionally hosted Go Fests at real-world venues, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to pivot to a virtual format for 2020's event. Despite the impromptu shift, Pokemon Go Fest 2020 turned out pretty well, and Niantic built upon the lessons it learned last year to make Pokemon Go Fest 2021 one of the best events it's ever held for the game.Just as last year, the festivities were spread across two days, with different activities and Pokemon available during each. Day 1 featured rotating virtual habitats that shifted hourly and changed up what kinds of Pokemon appeared in the wild. In lieu of exploring outside, this was a clever way of simulating the experience of wandering into a new environment and stumbling upon different Pokemon. Like last year, it was fun to check in throughout the day to see which monsters I would encounter.Day 2, however, was the true highlight. In contrast to last year's event, which was "interrupted" by a Team Go Rocket takeover, day 2 of Pokemon Go Fest 2021 revolved entirely around Legendaries. Every Legendary Pokemon that has appeared in Pokemon Go to date returned to Raid Battles throughout the day, which made for a fittingly epic way to celebrate the game's fifth anniversary.
